Hi I have just started my UCAS application and am finishing a National Diploma BTEC media course currently in college. I have searched around but the only good University for Film Making/Scriptwriting Courses currently seems to be Bournemouth.

I was wondering if anyone around here had any experience with a media university and could they recommend me specific universities that would be suitable for my choice of study.

Have a look through those, I've made it sort the Uni guide by media ratings.

I would avoid Lancaster, there media department (Institute of Cultural Research) is going through a number of problems at the moment.

You a Lancaster Uni student by any chance?

I don't know much about cultural studies at Lancaster, but it wouldn't surprise me if it has been cut back. The politics, philosophy and religious studies departments have been merged due to cutbacks. Cultural studies have also probably been affected by the cuts.

If you wanted to do management on the other hand, then by all means go to Lancaster...

At any rate, i'd warn the OP that media is hugely competitive, and in the current economic climate there is little demand for media grads. My advise is to start building up an impressive CV from day one, you'll need it to stand out from the crowd.

I used to be, th ICR is also being merged with sociology (the sociology department is one of two in England to have six star research status). For sociology brilliant for film/cult/media less great.

Well I guess I'd recommend Loughborough uni, seeing as I've just started my course there (communications and media studies). I'm enjoying it a lot so far, and just in general the experience is really good here (Loughborough's won best student experience for the fourth year in succession in The Times or something or other). I'm not sure how specific you want the course to be, but there's also the extra-curricular stuff, like the Loughborough TV channel etc, as well as work placements in the 2nd/3rd year.

In addition to the league table posted above, I'll give this as well (sorted for media).
