I've been looking at the release calendar for 2015 on the PS3 and it looks awful. The only stuff I'm remotely interested in is Persona 5 (because Persona 4), Tales of Zestiria (because I once played a Tales game and it was fun), Resident Evil HD Remaster and Resident Evil: Revelations 2 (because I used to like Resident Evil?) and Metal Gear Solid V (because I'm desperate). Also some sort of Saints Row expansion featuring Johnny Gat.

And that's it. All the 2015 games I really want are current-gen ("next-gen" in my mind). Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Dead Island 2, Disgaea 5, Dying Light, Just Cause 3, Kingdom Hearts 3, Uncharted 4...

Any recommendations?

Thats how it is, it has been a long time already that the new consoles came out so yeah, A)get a new console, B)get some older games that you didnt play or C)get a PC, because from now on it will be less and less.

The only advice I can give is to hibernate on the fatty backlog of the 7th generation along with the few releases still planned untill you can find yourself in a position to acquire a current-gen console.

Or maybe try to get the multiplatform ones on PC if possible.

Other than that I don't think there's much else you can do, apart from being in luck of having a friend that has a PS4/Xbone who you can strong-arm into purchasing your desired games.

Well, there are the Telltale adventures like Game Of Thrones and Tales From The Borderlands, but those will also be available on a bunch of other systems.

Apart from that, you pretty much have everything. I'm thinking 2015 will see the last of the really worthwhile PS3 games. There might be some exceptions, but I don't think we'll be getting a repeat of the PS2 in terms of longevity into the next gen.

PC is out for me.
I already own a laptop and from what I've read I need to build the computer myself if I want to have a decent mid-range gaming PC.

CPU $ 250
Motherboard $ 200
Hard Drive $ 200 240 GB
Mechanical & Optical Storage $ 200
Graphics Card $ 300
RAM Memory $ 150 8-16 GB
Power Supply $ 150
Case $ 100
TOTAL $ 1.550

That would take money, time and skills I don't possess. Primarily money. Building something out of imported parts in this country is ridiculously expensive and requires a kind of pharaonic insanity I don't have the time for either.

So far I'm doing that, I've stocked a good amount of games I have yet to play. I think I'm stocking way more than I'm actually playing. I'm used to it, I've always come in late with each generation. The last time I was up to date was when I owned a SNES. I've bloomed late ever since. I already have an interesting backlog for my PS3, and then some games I have yet to purchase. I just like to know there's more coming.

Sure, I didn't mean I was looking specifically for PS exclusive games, just any game I can play on the PS3 that's coming out on 2015.

Hey, PC is never out. You'd be surprised what fun little things you'll find on Steam and GoG. Fun little things that would run on toasters if toasters had screens.

A little while ago I played an 90s style adventure game called Gemini Rue. It was all noir and scifi and had Cowboy Bebop easter eggs. Want to know the minimum system requirements?

OS: Windows 2000, XP or Vista
Processor: Pentium or higher
Memory: 64 Mb RAM
Hard Disk Space: 700Mb
Video Card: All DirectX compatible video cards
DirectX®: 5.0 or Above

That's a game from 2011 and I had a blast with it.

As for PS3... Ever tried an Atelier game? They're releasing a new one in a few months and the older installments (there are five) are all pretty cheap. They're JRPG with a heavy focus on crafting. Fun turn-based battle systems, too.

Why would you be expecting much to be coming out for the PS3? The 7th gen is over and the share between last and current gen era of is pretty much coming to an end. Buy a PS4 or just do what I'm doing and check out the games you missed out on in the 7th gen.

No but I've seen enough Unskippable parodies on Atelier games to make me not want to play them. I'd rather stick to the Tales franchise for JRPGs.

The cost you've calculated is really, really high for a mid-range PC. I spent a bit more than half of that about a year ago and I'm expecting to be safe for at least 3-4 more years on that.

But I can understand not wanting to buy another computer if you've already got a perfectly functional laptop. I don't know about the PS3 releases of this year myself, but it's bound to dry up. Not interested in one or two more obscure titles that you might not've picked up in the past? Catherine, maybe? Tales of Symphonia is supposed to be one of the best in the series, I hear, and it has an HD collection on PS3. I can also semi-recommend Rain. Cute story and good art, though really linear and virtually no replay-value. It's appropriately cheap, though. Other than that, I suppose that a Playstation Plus subscription will get you through the year. 50 bucks for 12 months, 2 games a month, though you won't know what you'll get beforehand. This month, I think, it's Prototype 2 and Duck Tales.

I'm pretty sure that has to do with him living in Argentina. From what I've gathered from news and Johnny's other posts on that subject, hardware and software prices are comparatively very, very high over there. Now combine with lower average wages compared to North America or Western Europe and gaming become a really expensive hobby.

That might be for the "optimal" build, but if money is an issue, there's TONS of corners to cut if that's the prices you're expecting. I expect you could cut the costs of the case, power supply and RAM in half, shave $50-$100 off of the video card if you aim for a slightly lower tier, skip the SSD all together, and get a decent AMD mobo and CPU for the price of the Mobo you quoted alone. Also, depending on the deals, you probably could get an optical drive and a 1TB mechanical drive for half your quoted cost as well.

That is all assuming you're American. You said something to imply that you weren't :/ Still, it's probably not as daunting as you seem to think it is.

I'm not entirely familiar with the community and didn't check - so, thanks for clarifying. I didn't want to be a bigot or anything.

Yakuza 5 is finally coming to North America. If you like crazy stories with awesome fighting gameplay, I would wholly recommend getting it. If you haven't played any of the others it might be difficult to get into but the 4th one (also on Ps3) recaps all of the previous games, and it was really fun to play.

2014 wasn't a TERRIBLE year for PS3 releases, but it was definitely a sign that the pipe was running dry. My PC can play pretty much every game except AC: Unity (so nothing of value is lost. Barely below minimum requirements anyways), so I'll be riding on this for another year or so for major releases until I can justify a PS4 purchase...meaning whenever KH3, a next-gen Ratchet and Clank or other decent exclusive 3D platformer, or The Last Guardian come out. My PS3 will unfortunately not get much love this year. Sony said it would be supporting the PS3 for years after the PS4 has launched, but like the PS2, I doubt a lot of quality will come out after 2 years.

It's not my calculation, it's all taken directly from an Escapist article on building your own "mid-range" computer. As for PS3 games that are already out, I have a fair share of backlog, owned or not, I'm not worried about running out for a good while. I was just wondering about "coming attractions".
