Has there ever been a remake of anything, whether it be movie or video game, that the fans don't instantly ***** out claiming that "the original was so much better!"

Scarface is likely the best example but I'm assuming you're after recent examples.

The new Dawn of the Dead is a decent example. Much different than the old version but stands up well on it's own.

Well, if you consider "Kings Bounty" a remake of the original game then, yeah, there were remakes better than original thing.
I put high hopes into newest "Syndicate". Thumbs up !!!

I haven't seen any complaining about the Serious Sam HD remakes. So... those, I guess?

Casino Royale. The original movie was put together so badly most people thought it was a parody. The rebooted version with Daniel Craig was very well received.

I'm pretty sure the Gamecube remake of Resident Evil was universally loved. Other than that...nothing off of the top of my head.

"Batman Begins" & "The Dark Knight" were (in my opinion) vast improvements on the previous movie series.

"X-Men: First Class" is more of a prequel than a remake but I think the same applies.

No complaints because they are as good as originals, only slightly prettier. However there are no "oooooh"s and "aaaaaaah"s either. :)

3:10 to Yuma, I fell alseep druing the original and missed the end so itsnot totally fair that i'm comparing them but i love the remake.

Also the Dawn of the Dead remake, it is a better zombie movie in my opinion.

Last I checked (which I didn't), there wasn't complaints on the Pokemon remakes Fire Red/Leaf Green & Soul Silver/Heart Gold, And I certainly liked them.
Other remakes? ...nope, none that I can think of. Though I suppose there's more of them in the movie business rather than games (which is flooded with sequels).

I would have suggested that myself, but I never played the original so I felt I couldn't make that particular call. But yes, from what I've seen, that is a much more improved game.

Super Castlevania 4 as a remake to Castlevania. Although Castlevania remains a classic, most people seem to agree that Castlevania 4 is even better.
