My wife wanted to play a Pearl Jam song for her 87 year old mom's funeral this week. She can't rememeber what it was.

Any idea?

If not, any others you would recommend?

Anything from rock to opera, but remember, it is for an 87 year old conservative woman.

I'm still standing.
Living in a box.
Alive and Kicking.

I'm having those 3 played at my funeral.

On a more serious note.

I've had friends picking things like,

Sting - Fields of Gold.
R.E.M - Everybody Hurts.
Evenescence - My Immortal.

I don't have a serious answer, sorry.
A, yeah, the wife said nope to this :-( I know, you were kidding... and it was a good find for the topic. Cheered me up a bit, thanks!

Always thought Exitlude by The Killers would be great song for a funeral. Though if it would be suitable for an 87 year old woman is questionable.

This is what came to mind concerning Pearl Jam and a funeral:

That is really lovely... not the one she's looking for, but terrific. Never heard this one myself.

If it's for a funeral and you really wanted to get the waterworks going I think this may be a good choice:

I would think it would have had to have been. 'Last Kiss' it's a pearl jam cover of a oldies hit. And very fitting for a funeral. It was my immediate thought coming into this thread even before I saw Pearl Jam. So I hope this helps.

Great song, but nope, that's not the one. I'm checking some song fact site, has a list of nearly 70 songs by them. Gonna be a long night as I go through them at youtube. May say to heck with it and play Kris Kristoperson.

Her other idea was Smashing Pumpkins doing "Landslide." Not a good idea I told her.

Nope, itsn't this one, though it is great too. Another hint from her: might be a newer release as she'd never heard it before.

OT: I don't know. Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt could be good, it tends to make the tears roll.

Assuming your family is religious, I always thought this would be a great funeral song

If your family is not religious, I always thought this would just be a badass song at my funeral (though now that I know the story behind it, I probably would not but you don't need to worry about that : ) Also, I don't know what Grandma would think...

If you're looking for that Pearl Jam song...well, you're on your own. I don't really know Pearl Jam so hopefully someone else will be able to help you a bit better than I did.

The Best of Times by Dream Theater is a good one I think.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wG7r32tQTak

broken embed :( what did I do wrong on that?

EDIT: this song is about the drummer's father dying, but apart from a few passing references to his father I think it would be suitable
Remove the first part "watch?v". That's what is goofing up your embedded video. You only want what's past the equal sign, so youtube=wG7r32tQTak is what you want.

See: EDIT: He fixed it so I removed the video

There can be only one.
My friend's dad had that played at his funeral. He also made it clear to be buried in his Monty Python "At least I'm not dead" shirt.

OT: I'm having this played at my funeral, and while it's not what an 87 year old woman would pick, I don't think it's objectionable. I like the emotional range conveyed by it:
