Crystal Castles.
I love Crystal Castles.

EDIT

My mistake, Wiki tells me they are actually an electronic band, whatever that means.
Well, it doesn't matter, they still rock :D
Crystal Castles hurts my ears :(

The lady is all shouty.
I know what you mean, she can be a bit much in some of the songs.
But listen to the ones without 'lyrics' (if you can call them that :p)

Reckless is one of my favourites :)

'Techno' is such a crap term, particularly when people use it as a blanket term for any electronic music... which I guess is the case here. So...

The Prodigy. Their new album is a massive return to form.
Crystal Castles. Lots of people have said it, I'll gladly second it.
You Love Her Coz She's Dead. A bit like Crystal Castles, but with more chiptune.
Anything chiptune related, hit up 8bc [http://www.8bitcollective.com/] for more than you could ever realistically listen to.

Just searched those bands on Youtube...I'm still trying to work out what makes the former remotely 'techno', sounds like grindcore/death/black/whatever metal to me....so...Napaalm death? Closest I can come up with for the latter would be various digital hardcore like Atari Teenage Riot, Ec8or, Alec Empire etc.
Best I can do I'm afraid, I'm too old to keep up with what 'the kids' are into these days...*wanders off muttering about how much better things were back in the day, how these youngsters don't know what real techno is and how mars bars used to cost so much less*

Unless you were just saying 'yeah, I like hard, heavy stuff', in which case I would direct you to speedcore, breakcore, gabba, terrorcore etc. Basically most forms of hardcore techno. Disco **** and UK Skullfuck are good places to start if you like the less tuneful stuff.

Ok, if you're not looking for hardcore techno: Richard D. James, Dave the drummer, Woody McBride, Mike Dearborn...etc etc
But you want to be looking for labels as well as artists, and most of it stays on vinyl.

Plus: a few free speedcore/gabba DL's @ http://www.gabbafront.com/audiox.html

I'm not "heavily into dance music" enough to know the sub-sub-genres of Techno and Techno accessories, but I do know that Paul Oakenfold is fucking amazing.

Ohh, nice thread. I've always been a fan of Electro/ Techno/ Industrial music. Well if it's modern techno I would say that Perspects and Download are pretty awesome. I also like that Sven Vath album called Contact; have to agree with whomever is saying Orbital, they are very awesome and have a very particular sound; Empirion and Plastikman are really cool too.

But to me the best and most innovative and fresh Techno music came out during the 80's. Bands like Cabaret Voltaire, Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, Art of Noise, etc. took sampling and sequencing to a whole new level; they really shaped Techno music into what it is today.

I'm serious, this will help you and many other misguided people.

Also, it seems people enjoy Trance and its various subgenres more than "Techno."

Whilst I do enjoy techno (old school stuff like Dyewitness especially), ya can't call any kind of group that doesn't actually play instruments a band.

Dyewitness win the battle for your mind.

Pitchshifter? They played instruments didn't (don't?) they? Not really techno but I'm guessing OP means electronic/sythnesised etc as opposed to purist 4/4 'techno'.

RENARD. You may recognize him as the guy who played MAGfest. IMO, he's the most interesting and promising name in techno today.

Also, you can never go wrong with Aphex Twin.
