It has taken me a while, but I have now come to the conclusion that a game being "good" and a game being "entertaining" are not necessarily the same thing. That is to say, a game may have nice gameplay elements, graphics, story, and everything else and still for no real particular reason may not bring you as much enjoyment as it should. Likewise, you can have a crappy and hastily made flash game keep you entertained for far far too long. Thus having a strong and well made game is no guarantee that it will be enjoyable, and having a poor game is no guarantee that it wont be enjoyable.

So, what do you people think? Is it true that good and entertaining games are not necessarily the same thing? What games do you find good but which just don't entertain you like they should? And vice versa? Also what do you think makes a game Good and what makes it Enjoyable?

It's perfectly valid. I can appreciate that GTAIV and MGS4 are excellent. But, they don't entertain me. Ergo, They can fuck off.

*ahem*..I mean...I'm not going to sit through countless hours getting to the end if I have to do all the work.

I think it's purely a matter of personal taste when it comes to this. Some people just have low standards and think that if something has entertained them for hours then that's all that should matter. I don't think I'm gonna spend 50+ dollars on a game just for a few hours of entertainment though.

-and of course lets address the elephant in the room. If "it" is good, you still don't have to like it. Tons of games out there that people think are amazing that I can't stand and vice versa.

well i guess if you don't like FPS your going to not like COD but that doesn't make it a bad game. So as previously stated, preference more than most other things.
