I've been lurking on these forums for a few months now, and I've been impressed by the friendly people on here, so I need to ask: what's a good router to have? I know this isn't exactly game related, but I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me out.

linksys and dlink are the best.

Welcome to the escapist. Never take anything I say seriously.
this seems to discount what you just said but...

Yeah BlackStar I have a linksys but I know that dlink makes a solid product too.

Because then you will become the basement, and the basement you. The next who questions will say, "why should I not go into the basement?" and we shall point to you. And because it's where we grow our weed.

Dlink or Linksys and by the way routers are very game related. I use a Linksys wireless 54g and it gives me no problems as long as the firmware is up to date.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm asking because at the moment I have a Belkin, who I am now convinced are the spawn of Satan. You couldn't make a worse router if you tried.

People are friendly, but we do have our fair share of idiots!

I use Linksys and it works like a charm.
Idiots? Apart from the "FIRST!!!!1111" I see on Yahtzee's videos, I haven't really seen any of them while lurking here.

All I can say is, don't get Netgear. I'm using it, and it can only handle a couple of connections at a time. Try using Linksys or Dlink.

LynkSys or Dlink. Go with a common brand. That way if it ever messes up, there'll be tons of help for it on google. What you don't want is a rare router. Try and get one with 801.11N for strong wireless connectivity and one that's uPnP enabled. Then again nearly all of them have uPnP these days.

i've used both linksys and dlink and setup various other ones in my work

Linksys are good, HOWEVER they have some issues. even tho they are owned by Cisco, who make the best routers for a business. their wireless n routers have some issues when starting up, if they lose connectivity it takes a long time to get it back, tho they could have fixed this issue.

i now have a Dlink and it works great. i've had no real problems with it and what problems i have had were fixed by a reboot or a reset.

the Dlink also has WAY better security settings than the Linksys. it has some great security features, tho it's a bit more strict than the Linksys it's better in the long run.

I think SpeedTouch are pretty good. I had a D-Link once and just had problems.
