Actually, if I'm not mistaken, Rice was in the "Powell camp" regarding the Iraq War. That is, internally, she was among those who spoke against entering the war, although it was ultimately the Cheney/Rumsfeld camp who ended up with the greater degree of influence on President Bush.

Colin Powell and his "camp" were opposed to the invasion, especially the unilateral nature of it...I believe if it weren't for Powell, the US would not have even bothered trying to convince the UN and the rest of the world before invading. Unfortunately, he was unable to persuade Bush, and when the President makes a decision, all the cabinet members must show public support (or resign, though in that case the role would probably be filled with more "loyal" replacements, making matters even worse). That's how being a subordinate works. To direct anger about the war towards Rice is intellectually problematic.

Also, being on the board of directors doesn't make you in charge of company policy. It just makes you one voice among many, and given that someone like Rice is probably going to fill more of an "honorary" seat, she'll probably have even less influence.
