So, Play Magazine has closed its doors, turned out the lights, and forgotten to tell its paying subscribers. Only through forums and a few twitter entries have (a scant few) faithful readers to Play realized that the money they just spent of a yearly subscription has gone into the toilet. And let?s not forget the writers and staff that just got the boot with little or no warning from the sounds of it. Yes, a lot of people hated this magazine... but a great many people loved it for its views on gaming culture.
And yet Dave Halverson, the publication's founder, appears so broken up by this development that he's already reviving GameFan... his first bankrupted publication. http://www.gamesabyss.com/news/1243-dave-halverson-re-launches-gamefan-magazine
He was the weakest link at Play Magazine (his reviews were so slanted, they were almost vertical) and after screwing subscribers out of their money, he now expects the masses to subscribe to his 'new' (and already failed) publication? Oh yeah... and he's going to spilt it between games and movies?
Is it just me or do I sense an epic fail?
