when will it happen? its not like they dont have the money and the power to do so. the tech they have will also make it the fastest, as they have already trialled 1 gigabit fiber connections.

wouldnt that be great?

Well considering they started out as a mere search engine and mostly got are where they are now through advertisment deals, yes. They would expand even more if they reasonably could.

The work that goes into becoming an ISP is Herculean. Unless they buy someone else out, I don't see Google providing ISP services in a range even remotely similar to current companies.

They haven't already? With all the stuff Google has been taking over, I'm surprised we don't tell each other things like "turn on the Googleputer. I need to go on the Googlenet with Google Chrome and check my Gmail, then google a walkthrough for that tough part of Call of Google, then we can play that on co-op on my Googlebox while drinking Google Cola."
I'm just waiting for them to change their name to Buy N Large ;-)

If I could get access to 1gb fiber and pay what I am now or less, I'd be all for it. I'm currently stuck in a small town with a crappy ISP being overcharged for terrible DSL service.

Or "Acme".

OT: I'm sure that they could, and they've probably considered it. The fact that they haven't probably means that they found it to be less economically profitable when compared to the other eggs in their proverbial baskets.

However, when those eggs turn into yummy chickens, well, who knows? Maybe?
