Actually yeah Im with the people complaining.

Whilst there is a way to remove the images of your house, not everyone has access to the internet. Just as not everyone will know if one of these googlecars are going to be taking photos of their house, so they wont be able to shut their curtains.

As a country, we have a ridiculous amount of CCTV and surveillance tools watching us as it is, this is one additional invasion into our privacy.
Sadly true. We have the highest number of CCTV cameras per person in the world [http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5942513/], and yet it's still a shit hole in terms of crime and poor cleanup rates for crime.

I've not seen the Google camera views, so I've no idea how 'intrusive' they are or aren't.

The Irony is since the village of Broughton made their little stand against google, A veritable swarm of Google Earth fans have descended upon the village taking pictures of everything they can see and also making humourous plans on how best to burgle all the houses.

If they hadnt got on their high horses about it no-one would never have heard about Broughton

Will try and find a link

I think it's really cool how my car can be seen in my Dad's drive way on street view. It's not like the resolution is high enough for anyone to really see anything incriminating. Plus it's kinda nifty to show people where I grew up in a 360 degree view with out having to go there. hah.

Have these people even seen Streetview? Do they really think Google is pulling into their driveways?

I think SV is an awesome thing but I suppose it wouldn't damage its usefulness too much if they removed most of residential streets and only photographed intersections.

Also, it's not like they're streaming live footage of your street or anything. This is the UK, so it really wouldn't surprise me if these people are naive enough to think there will be a live feed of their street up on google that would be criminals will use to check when their not at home so they can rob their house.

This is an invasion of privacy and the people who think otherwise couldn't care what other people think! Because it doesn't bother you must mean everything is alright, dickheads!

People that don't want google to see are more than likely people that have something to hide

I agree with google :)

Hey, I'm from Milton Keynes! I didn't know there were Google cars around. Maybe I should read the local newspapers more often...

Maps don't show the fine details of the exterior of your house, that's simply a stupid comparison, maps actually provide a useful means of navigation, what does this provide exactly? Besides the ability to gawk at peoples houses? Exactly what situation do you need to be in to require the street level views in the first place?

Yes, they could go to your house and take pictures, but with this they don't have to expend any effort at all, at least some bloke running around your house taking pictures may arouse some suspicion. As it is, they already have all the necessary resources.
I've found it very useful as a navigational aid, walking through the route virtually makes it a lot easier to memorise. Plus, you can get to know the area, what shops/cafes are there, what sights you want to see, etc, ahead of time. It's quite useful for vacations, as I found out when I visited York last week.

Yep that makes sense, as criminals can't possibly just walk on the street and look directly at the house anyway. If there putting in the effort to rob a house its unlikely there not going to put in the effort to just go and see the damn thing.

I'm not really sure what you're getting at there. It is a fact that British people do love to complain, these days more so than ever. The more trivial the matter, the better...:)

Anyway, you must continue to endure, for that is what makes us stronger!

If there is something to argue, there will probably be some one there to cause this commotion. This is almost like parents protesting about violent video games because it is teaching their children the wrong morals.

If they were simply going to view the street as a street scene rather than drive almost into people's drives and take pictures of the houses - I think that's a different issue.".
And how the hell are they supposed to do that? Viewing the street means having to take pictures! I side with Google here--the beneifts of this far outweight any downsides.

I actually saw the google car go past and me and my friends just stood there gawping at it. You know you have no life when the most interesting thing to happen to you all day is seeing a car with a funny camera on top.
