My typical response to this kind of crap: Who cares?

More importantly, what were they supposed to do? Use the corpses of soldiers to arrange their letters?
Exactly my point. American patriotism = idiotic..
Then so is patriotism for your country.
So uninformed..

America takes patriotism to the idiotic level, for an example take a look at World War 2

Ever heard of the Sherman m4 tank? It was renowned for being easy to mass produce and less than average in quality. Its main flaw was the fact that the gun couldn't dent Axis armour from like over 700 metres.
The brits however had made a very potent gun, QF 17 pounder, which rendered Axis armour useless within long range (could penetrate most armour from ranges over 1200 metres) and it was equally easy to produce.

The logical outcome of this situation is this: Remove bad guns and put 17 pounder guns in instead, the Americans didn't want to use foreign technology though and what do they do? Research for guns that are better than the current gun, which were still outclassed by the 17 pounder..

If you dont see that is idiotic, jam needles in your eyes..

And you said my country's patriotism is idiotic as well? Welcome to fucking Holland, the biggest underdog ever. We use about as much dutch technology as the Americans do (which is rather little..)

America do take the piss with their patriotism, but I don't see it hurting anyone. You know, besides giving alot of Americans MASSIVE egos.

Those MASSIVE egos are what start conflicts, whats also bad is the people who think stuff like the war in Iraq is totally right and ALL iraqi should die just because USA has troops there..

I dont mean to be all tree huggery here but really, cut the crap. Use better stuff EVEN if its from abroad and don't be such a retard about your country.. (That was aimed at you! [whoever feels offended])

That is beside the point though, if this is really what's concerning political leaders, we are in some serious trouble. Tell the old farts to stop complaining and making ridiculous accusations against a SEARCH ENGINE!
It's not government officials. Because they DO have more important things going on. It's, as I said, a few morons with too much time on their hands, and access to global media.
Well put sir, I was actually pretty ignorant there,
Thanks for giving me a decent reply instead of trying to start a fight,
(Sorry for the late reply, first time I've logged on in months)
cheers :)

That's just retarded. Anyone who takes this that seriously needs serious treatment. Or maybe incineration.

What a bunch of crybabies.

Which is more important in today's world, the rather dull idea of storming a heavily fortified beach, or a great game that is timeless?

In all seriousness, fuck you America. You weren't the only people on those beaches, get off your high horse and go sit in the corner with that dunce cap on.

Ye i know it's old but this is so ignorant I CAN'T pass it by!
So the US Army invades Europe, fight's it's way all across the continent, captures Berlin, then confronts the Red Army and then pounds them back to Moscow and then takes over the world!

If you're going to throw history around atleast know what the hell you're talking about!Better yet READ A BOOK! Turned the tide my foot. Any WW2 historian will tell you that the Red Army obliderated the best SS and Panzer divisions of the Third Reich. The occupational forces in western europe were mostly reservists. Now don't get me wrong, reservists still can shoot and kill, but be honest.D-Day tied down those reserves in the west while the reds we steamrolling their way through the eastern front.

I'm really embarrassed that people from the country I also live in said things like that. It's Google for goodness sake! It doesn't even matter.

I wish my country would STFU and stop living in the past, we're no longer the most influential or liked country anymore so we shouldn't act like it.

I am SO glad I'm not an american. Seriously, to all you escapists with an american background: What's the deal with this "patriot"thing? Where I'm from we don't care about anything like that and we do fine.
I mean, some americans seems like they think so highly of the word patriot that they seem to miss what the word should represent based on your constitution: Freedom, equality, and all the other things you took from the french constitution who was made during their revoultion. (That's right, the american costitution is based on the french, although mine's to so I guess out countries got something in common.)

Honestly I don't see why people can't see where the complaints might come from even if the complainers are idiots. Google is an American company but they seem reticent to put up stuff for American holidays. Now to hell with anything else, I love that Tetris banner, but it is strange. You'd think that an American company might put stuff for American holidays up in there, it's weird that I rarely notice anything. It'd be odd for a British company to not put anything for a Brit holiday too so its not just an American thing.

Awful lot of American-bashing going on in this thread... but then again this is the Escapist forums, so I suppose I should be used to it by now, right? I'm not.

There's two ways of looking at this issue, and in neither way is it anti-american.

Either it's anti-allies (D-Day was an important event in the war for all the good guys, not just the US), or they just prefer lighter fare (war is always a downer). Presumably the latter, because the former conclusion requires near paranoia to reach.

Really, who cares? Does an image that people notice, then forget, really commemorate. At least they used one that maybe got some laughs. Damn people.
