Sounds more like they're trying to build up some kind of network service or online thing. Perhaps a competitor to Valve's Steam?

NO! Don't let Google do it! Statistically they already have more worldwide dominance than Skynet ever had at it's peak!

It would be neat if in the next couple of years both Google and Apple suddenly launched major gaming consoles.

Yeah, I'm getting a little impatient for the next generation of consoles to come out... anything that gets the big 3 moving faster towards their next consoles' release dates is good news for me :)

Surely I'm not the only one who thinks that dreamcast 2 is a bad idea? I mean, the whole reason SEGA went under was because the first one was so horrible.

also: how do you type music notes for a captcha? lol

Wow. I'm hoping for the best! If Google does as good a job at game-making as they do at everything else, we'll have a new platform that's as easy, fun and glitch-free to use as Nintendo, and as powerful and feature-loaded as the Son&Mic.

They still probably won't outperform Nintendo, though. But again if they bring their usual excellence along with them, they'll give them the biggest run for their money since early 90's Sega.

To think I couldn't love Google more.

P.S. to those who say google is evil, may I ask how they are "evil"? To me, it seems as though you're angry at their success.

This really is good news.
Google are yet to create a product that has been locked to any platform so will this finally be the change in the industry that brings Mac gameing further into the limelight, Linux gameing into existence and destroys the Microsoft monopoly?

OT: Interesting, but cant say im too excited. I presume when google say they want in on the games market, they have games like Cityville in mind not hardcore titles.
Read the ad.

"You will design strategies for game distribution and discovery...."

You don't distribute online casual games. This makes it sound like they're looking to sell in the high street or through a digital platform like steam or their own system.

If Dreamcast 2 is a codename for an online service then I can see this happening no problem(Google provides the service and Sega chips in the games), but a console they wont make, they couldn't be that stupid to try and break into such a highly saturated market.

Whatever they do decide Google has enough cash to throw around and experiment.

Apart from dubious and shady business stories, the issue most people have with them is that they make all there money off other peoples work without giving a penny back. Since you love google so much I presume you are using Chrome? Well, you are giving google the right to do whatever they want with anything you do in that browser. They own all the information, reserve the right and also use the right to sell data to third parties, etc. Since we live in an age where every second company knows everything I do anyway, frankly I find it hard to care too much about it, but its a little unsettling that google is selling my search and browsing history to third parties. Or at least they would, but since I dont use Chrome since I think its a shitty browser its just my search history.

Interesting, thanks for the clarification. I'm actually not using chrome.

Anyway, in nearly every software company, there are some less than honest things they do. HP, Microsoft, Apple, IBM(big one), facebook, dell, you name it. It's just the big guy usually gets the worst PR from these, as microsoft knows all too well.

Compared to most, Google is unbelievably honest.
