Don't worry, they're male. I have too much time on my hands so I went and looked it up for you. That one is not male though. They rule 63'd their own character. They also drew a weird emo samus that I find disagreeable.

Walter the Hedgehog seems to be an existing character in a TV show of the same name, and he's described a wiki of the show as an "antagonistic anti-hero". But, with a little effort, I found the kind of picture you were looking for.
