'Yeah Batman, it's great that you're here to catch all these rogues and everything, but I managed to beat these freaks years ago before they started wearing weird costumes.'
That's what I hope this doesn't turn into, Jim Gordon versus pre-rogues of the week, but I must admit despite my initial scepticism it had a stronger start than Agents of SHIELD. Lots of call outs to the Dark Knight Trilogy is no surprise, and I loved those movies so I don't really mind. I particularly liked Oswald's character and how Jim handled the impasse at the end. I can see the potential for a lot of good stories here with the pre-rogues on both sides of the law like Edward Nygma's brief appearance as the forensic analyst. They can have Jervis Tetch as a Carol-obsessed hypnotist, or Professor Crane as a psychiatrist.
One idea that sprang to mind given what this 'arc' looks like is that Jim is going to need at least one ally on the force besides Montoya and Allen early on when Falcone's control is the strongest and Jim is at his least-experienced, out-gunned and only alive due to his cover. Someone to be discarded later when Bullock starts to turn more towards the good. Officer Lyle Bolton aka Lockup is hardly a major villain, but they will probably have to dip into the lesser-known pre-rogues sooner or later anyway, and he made a big first impression on me as a buff draconian security guard who enjoys punishing criminals just a bit too much. Someone with such a stark view on morality would make a good temporary asset until Gordon realizes how punishment-happy the young Lyle is and cuts ties with him later on, driving him into a vendetta against Jim. Just my idea, probably won't happen but I hope it does.
