Well, I played the trial for gothic 4, wow, I've played ps1 games with better graphics, the voices were horrible, combat was weak... but I couldn't put down the controller, I'm a huge fantasy/rpg fan, and I need my fix. There has been so few fantasy rpgs released. Did anyone have any similar findings?

Man, the game has horrible graphics, I enjoyed my time with it, but it's sooo bad. I loved my ps1, Crash bandicoot and spyro come to mind as games with better graphics. I don't mean to make this thread all about graphics, and.. erm the ps1, what did you guys think of the game?

Gothic 4 SUCKS !!!

It's unworthy of claiming the Gothic name.

The learning point system was thrown out the window.
Combat is a joke - monsters launch a signal flare to warn you to dodge attacks and your character is more like something from the Matrix.
Weapons no longer need strength or dexterity , armor is just armor - no special resistance to magic or piercing attacks.

Graphics are good , I admit that much.

Honestly , this game is on the same level as Divinity 2.How the mighty have fallen.

Sorry for the bile but I HAD to get that out of my system.

Wait for Risen 2 , let's hope that's good.

PS : The Wolves and their teeth seem stolen from Risen graphics.

The graphics hilariously bugged for me. I saw fields of grass floating in the sky.
The voice acting was a bit meh.
The combat was alright. I liked the rolling and using the bow though. It reiforced my desire to play a medevil set fps. The caster system pissed me off. So as a mage you make scrolls to cast spells? Oh great, it's like Runescape's casting system but awful.

The witch scene made me giggle. It was stereotypical witchiness and I would have loved to see Granny Weatherwax walk in and smack her across the head.

The plot heading seemed obvious
The main guy and his fiance go to the main land where she gets killed/kidnapped or something original... nothing bad happens and she becomes a valid partner on your adventure and nothing sexist happens. Or something shit happens at the wedding. You know something bad happens in a game when a 'Joyous' vent is about to take place. Like in Dragon Age as a city elf.

I think it will be a medicore rpg. It will be like Divinity II. Probably going to be a 'good' game. It just feels like you've played it before (2 worlds suffers from this too *cough* Elder Scrolls wannabe). I wish more new RPGs were like Dragon Age. Still stuck with the same rules of Elf Dwarf Human Warrior Rogue Mage Half-Elf Spellblade but feels different and distinct somehow despite not really being new. An illution is better than nothing.

Uhm , isn't Dragon Age a D&D style RPG ?

I mean we have the D&D : Baldur's Gate , Icewind Dale , Neverwinter Nights , Dragon Age.
Hack & Slash : Diablo , Hellgate London .
and Action-Rpg : Gothic , Risen , Elder Scrolls , etc.

I played it on 360, and yeah the witch part was both awful and hilarious. It feels like a need to play it because it's fantasy though, hell, I beat two worlds because I needed my fix... twice.

There was a lot I liked. And a lot of flaws. The witch part was ear-gratingly awful to listen to and her actress was well, over the top. The main character sounded like a pro though. I think he may have done the voice of Alistair in Dragon Age, if not he just sounds very familiar. The combat was pretty fun, though there are bugs here and there, like shield smash doesn't work if the enemy is in the middle of an attack animation. I mean at all. But lightning interrupts. So we have interrupts on lightning's stun but not on shield bash's? There are also some cute ideas like the sheep that follows you so you take him back to the flock, at which point he frolics with the other sheep.

All these things said though I just can't see myself paying 60 dollars for this as it currently is. I might pick it up at some point for a reduced price. 40 or 30 would be about where I'd price it. The quality isn't quite there yet for 60 and this game came out of nowhere in an already packed season. Fable 3 is just around the corner as well. I left the demo more or less with a positive opinion though. The game sits somewhere between the elderscrolls and fable game play wise. which are two series I like. But there's definitely flaws they need to iron out.

I also very much liked the bow. The bow's very solid I gotta say. As for the scroll system for casting. No. No you don't. Just open up your skills menu and hit a directional pad button when you have the spell you want selected. Viola. You're now casting from your own mana. Scroll spells cost less to use though. I could cast like 10 lightning bolt scrolls vs like 4 from memory.

You've completely missed the point of their post. It was the rather blind comparison to PS1 graphics that they (and I) were taking issue with. Not if the graphics were 'good' or not.

It has better graphics than crash bandicoot or spyro. Seriously I pointed out to my brother that the graphics looked a little off. I forget what I said to him. I think I said it looked like a high-end xbox one title then vacillated and said well maybe a little better than that. It doesn't look this gen though. Graphics are a little rough. but NOT playstation one. Your hyperbole and your insistence on sticking to your guns G.W.Bush style helps nothing. Just admit the graphics were not better on playstation one games and be done with it.

Sometimes I've found I improve upon the graphics of old games in my memory through the magic of my imagination. I go back and I play those games and I find out that I was wrong. There is no failing in admitting to our mistakes, that's like refusing to admit you posses some degree of common sense.

Very disappointed. But then I think I was most disappointed by the odd clipping physics and not being able to swim. I just hate hold-your-hand restricted gameplay in modern games.

No big deal even if it has flaws. PC modders will simply make mods to fix everything that's wrong.
