I talk to Anarchemitis on a regular basis, but of all the people I know on the Escapist (or somewhat know) I think Meatloaf lives the closest to me.

I only know Armitage Shanks (partly) and Aussiesniper (a less frequent user) in real life, but I do talk to several people on occasion using the PM system. There are too many to name, but I can safely say that I talk to nearly everyone who took part in the Escapist Election, and many more.

As for IM, I stopped using it at the age of 14; long before I discovered the Escapist.

I've "talked" to NewClassic on one occasion via some weird IM thing that we haven't used ever again (and I have now forgotten the password to), but other than that, no-one.

My computer, being Vista driven, sees some obscure logic in foiling any plans I have for easy IM chat, and doesn't let me use the vast majority of IM programs, no matter how much I fiddle with (and occasionaly physically attack) the security settings.
However, the escapist IRC does seem to work for some reason, but that's filled with staff most of the time and I feel out of place.

Aside from a forum made by someone who lived in my suburb that was designed to organise LANs in the area, I don't think the forum setting is an effective place to get to know people well.
