on the 'am I the only one'-note (I know, I'm not), I have a problem with churches. I really don't like being in them.
last year, I was on a trip to Ghent, Belgium and we visited a cathedral there. From the moment I stepped inside until the moment I was out again, I had this almost smothering feeling of discomfort and I just had to get out as soon as I could. that was the worst one, but being in churches always makes me feel very uncomfortable. I'm not sure why this is, though my guess would be that it's because I generally dislike organized religion and it's all in my own head.
does anyone have similar experiences, not necessarily with churches, just places that give you a bad feeling in general.
and do you have any other theories on what causes this?

I'm not talking about things like auschwitz though, that one is perfectly logical.

P.S.: I wasn't sure wether to put this in R&P or offtopic. If I did it wrong, someone please move it.

Hmmm, I don't know about churches, I actually kinda like them in a strange way (Although I'm non-religious).

I really hate Graveyards though. It might be just too many horror games, but whenever I'm in one I immediately want to get the heck outta there!

Churches? Yes, definitely want out of them. Graveyards? Daytime no, I just feel sad that every grave doesn't have flowers on them. Makes me feel that the person there has been forgotten. A fate I hope they never know about.

Other places? I honestly hate being in prisons, small cars, and rollercoasters. I hope never to go to jail, so if I ever commit anything illegal that I know I'll get caught with I WILL kill myself, and as for the last two, I'm paranoid simply put.

I can see where you're coming from, on both points.
I understand that people like churches from a historical, cultural, artistic or architectural standpoint. I do too, to a degree, but somehow they make me feel bad. as for the graveyard; it's not strange that you're unnerved by the thought of walking around in a place where there's a lot of dead people buried. they're not exactly my favorite hangout spot either.

Depends on the place, really. I'll be fine in some "scary" or "haunted" places, but other places just don't sit right with me.

Like being in the woods at night. Or walking alone through the streets at night. Those actually cause me to run.

I hate it when someone brings up an awkward topic, or a personal one when you are driving, or stuck in an elevator or something. I don't want to talk about it, but I don't want to talk about not wanting to talk about it (and explaining that I don't want to talk about it noramlly makes the other person want to talk about it more), and I don't want to hurt the other person by being overly-rude, so I get the "I'll just not talk or make eye contact util an opportunity to escape comes up" mentality.

So yeah, same mentality, different cause.

A prison I could stand, if it was for a short time. I don't like cars, but that's more because of slight motion sickness. I love rollercoasters though :) yay, adrenaline :D

OH god, woods at night... especially alone. creeps me out! listening to music helps, but it also makes it harder to hear things which makes me even more scared. so the basic idea is 'do not go into the forest at night'! I'm alright with towns at night though, even if the streetlights aren't working.
