So, this thread is in two parts. First, a question for myself. In Alan Wake, there are various collectibles such as Coffee Thermoses and Manuscript Pages. And some of the aforementioned pages can only be found in 'Nightmare' difficulty mode, unlocked after beating the game once. To anyone who has played the game, does anybody know if the other collectibles found in Normal mode get carried over to a new game? Or will I need to find everything again in Nightmare mode?

Second, the main topic. Lots of games have collectibles now, ranging from the mundane (like Assassin's Creed flags) to the plot-important (the Alan Wake Pages) to 'trickery' ones, like Pokemon (yes, getting all the Pokemon counts as a 'collectible', even if you never realised it). So, what are your thoughts on collectibles in games? As for myself, well, it varies. I'm an achievement whore so I always try to get them all where possible. Whether I think they're a good idea in certain games is a whole other story... :p

I very rarely collect everything, I never caught all the pokemon. I just get bored trudging back through each level hunting down the last little trinket or do-dad.

Meh, I never did either, truth be told. Mainly because I never had many friends who played the games as well though, so I could never get the 'trade only' ones. Also I lost patience waiting for ages to catch a rare Pokemon only to accidentally make it faint or have it run away and have to start the search all over again...
