GOTY 2011?

Over the past month, maybe, I've seen a ton of people saying that _____ will be the GOTY for 2011. Or people were even saying a game would be 2010's before the game was out. Honestly, can someone explain to me how people can even think this way? Yeah, they expect it to be good, but you know how many games I "knew" would be awesome but were more "meh" to horrible? FEAR 2, BioShock 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Borderlands Claptrap DLC, just to name a few more recent ones...

ME3 or Little Big Planet 2. Epic conclusion to a trilogy for ME3, and infinite replayability for LittleBigPlanet 2.

Of course seeing as how neither are released yet this is only vague wishful thinking on my part.

I know eh? People do this every year. Is everyone's attention spans really gone that far out the window?

OP: I'll stick to what never ceases to amaze: Mass Effect 3 or Dragon Age 2.

And, funny thing, half the people aren't reading my first post even... I'm asking how can they know the game will be amazing, and won't suck, and they are going on saying it will be the GOTY.... Go figure...

uncharted 3 without question. no game i've played has even come close the the level of enjoyment i got out of the second, so if 3 is just as good as 2, i'd be perfectly happy to name if GOTY 2011, but it's actually looking to be BETTER. GOTY? more like GOTE(eon)!

Maybe they're reading your post and just don't take in consideration what you have to say? I mean, the title sounds like its suggesting you give your GotY prediction.

The main part about it is prediction, naturally. Of course, you can't know whether a game will suck, but you can predict. I predicted that I would love MW2 more than any other game in 2009 and I did. I predicted that CoD 4 would be my favorite in 2007 and it was... you get the pattern.

So, yeah. Of course, we can't know. Doesn't stop people from guessing.

I'm not really into such proclamations, especially as far as generalizing goes. That said I fully expect Skyrim to be the GOTY for me even though I don't know a damn thing about it. I just loved the franchise so far more than anything else, but that just ties in with my love of huge open spaces and freedom of movement. I don't claim it'll be great, who knows, maybe they botch it and I certainly don't think it'll be GOTY for everyone, but for me, I'm feeling pretty confident in saying it's gonna blow my mind to chunks

Battlefield 3 is coming out in 2011. All other games are thus rendered null and void for eligibility in any contest. I expect Battlefield 3 to win all GOTY awards, all awards for best FPS, all awards for best multiplayer, a best picture Oscar, multiple Grammies, and a ton of Emmies while sweeping up a couple of Juno awards on its way to the Genies.

I wouldn't call it predicting the GOTY for 2011. It's more like how geese migrate. It's just a fact of life that any Battlefield game will be pure, diluted awesome.

1)The Elder Scrolls:Skyrim
2)Bioshock: Infinite
3)Portal 2

For some reason, I don't think Portal 2 will be as big as its predecessor, but it will still be in the running for GOTY.

IIRC, it was said to be eight times as long as Portal 1... So that would give me 12 hours of enjoyment.
