Can't we ever go back to the good ol' days of unrealistic racing games, in my opinion, those were much more fun. Rush was a good example.

well i'm sure forza 3 will have some great features like dynamic lighting and weather and changing times of day .... oh wait they can't do that due to not enough disc space

as nice as forza might be, my money will be with GT5, due to disc size it can easily have a lot better graphics and features, such as the aforementioned dynamic weather, lighting and changing times of day

The Gran-Turismo series are the only racers I've ever enjoyed. I had the first 2 on my PS1, I have already forgotten what the x-box racer is called. What's a couple of months waiting between old friends?

Well, I guess there are just two main things to say about this. Forza 2 has given Racing sim fans years of fun so far this generation, and now Forza 3 is coming out in the same generation before GT5.

So microsoft has had two of the best racing sim's released so far this generation, Sony hasn't so far, and are looking at a next year release.

Then there's the fact that yes, GT5 will most probably look better, have a good amount of features, WRC, more tracks more cars e.t.c.

Aside from graphics and actual content, the actual simulation side of driving i've always thought has been done better in Forza, and after playing the demo of F3 it still appears they have out done them selves. However that's just a matter of opinion, people are welcome to their own.

So the real question is, is all this waiting for GT5 worth it for slightly better graphics and a few more features? Or would you rather have Forza which let's be honest doesn't look much different from GT5 to play with now (not forgetting Forza 2 has been out for years).

Who gives a shit? In the end, Burnout is the only racing series worth playing.

Unless, of course, you somehow manage to make a competitive version of Crazy Taxi.

Attempting to defuse typical console weenie-waggling. I don't know if I will be successful.

I loved Gran Turismo 1-3. 4 was "meh". But now I have a 360, and Forza is pretty much the exact same game. If not for Forza, GT5 might have been a system seller for me. But instead, I will just buy Forza 3. I think GT5 being so late is just one of the many things gone wrong for Sony this generation.

There's only one thing I can say on this subject. Sure, they're both shiney. Sure, they're both realistic racers. BUT... Forza has always been, in my opinion, much more fun.
This man speaks the truth. I hate racing sims but Forza was just perfect. The GT series I could never play nor get into.

Oh well Phil Spencer needs to get his facts straight because Gran Turismo 5 is coming out in the 4th quater next year! GTPSP also came out last thursday on the 1st, which is going to allow you to take all your cars you obtain in it and transfer them to GT5 once it comes out.
Last I heard it was coming out next March. Have they really pushed it back as far as Q4 2010? Hell, it was supposed to be out already by now...

More fun, how? They're nearly identical gameplay. Race, upgrade, race, win, etc.

I think the game with the most variety (tracks, cars, events) is best. Graphics will be great on both, as will the gameplay/physics. So unless one of them can ramp-up the replay value, I don't see how you can claim one is better than the other.
The tuning options in Forza have always given better feedback, both because you have the telemetry feature and because there's more feel of body movement to the cars what with things like tire compression, variable centre of gravity, etc. GT has always had the CoG in the middle and flintstone tires, and they're only just changing that now for GT5.

I really liked the older Gran Turismo games, but they've got a hell of a lot of catching up to do now in terms of making an overall experience beyond "We've got lots of pretty cars", they've been content to rest on their laurels and do things in their own conservative little way, but the entire rest of the grid has moved on.

On this one I think forza is a good racer but has always seemed to me to lean a little more to the arcade side of things. Granted it is a sim racer and pretty decent one but they have always felt more arcadish to me then GT series.
I am a sim racer at heart I like tweaking and tuning every little suspension piece and changing ratios to get that extra half second around the course and Gran Turismo has always gave me that sense of those little tweaks actually changing the dynamics of the car in the way they should.

I will probably pick up both but I am more excited for GT5

I've only played GT4 and found its sandbox-like race hubs confusing and a pain in the ass. I like my racing games to be clear cut, to always know where I am racing now and where I should be racing next, and what benefits I'll get from winning said races. So I had much more fun with Forza 2, I felt that the "mission" progression was much smoother and the sense of achievement more present than in GT4 where you can basically waltz in many of the events even though you are driving a shitty car compared to the rest, but noone ever tells you that so you end up racing perfectly but still finishing last. Or maybe I am too retarded for this game. But anyway, I will give GT5 a rental and if it plays better than the last one I'll save up and invest on the game and a good wheel, which is the only way one can enjoy these games.

I hate racing sims, and neither one of these games will get play on my consoles. The disc trays will be occupied by games that don't feel like work.

Have played GT2-4 + 5 Prologue, and have lately playing Forza 2. Overall so far I do prefer GT however I dislike 5 Prologue and won't deny it. Couple minor but forgivable feelings towards Forza2. In general both great games and really comes down to which console you have. A real fight would only really happen if forza broke in the PS market or GT moved to the 360, then we would have a real battle.

EDIT: A wheel definitely is a good compliment to both games.
