Grand Theft Auto 4 Application Error on Start Up

I just bought GTA IV on Steam during the recent holiday sale. I figured it was only ten bucks, and came with the expansion packs, so what the hell, right? Once I did all the setup stuff for the game, I hit play. It shows me the typical loading screen pictures, but after a few seconds, an error message pops up. It says:

GTAVI.exe - Application Error
The exception unknown software exception (0xc0000005) occured in the application at location 0x614ea5ff.

Does anyone know what the hell is wrong? I know I didn't pay much for it, but I'll still be upset if I can't play the game. If you can help. please post. Thanks in advance!

I would suggest the following. It has helped me out with other games, but the process is the same for all of the steam games.

1. Open steam and select your game.(GTA IV)
2. Select Properties at the very bottom
3. Click on the Local Files tab
4. Click on verify integrity of game cache
5. Follow all further instructions

That should work. Otherwise you might have to look into unistalling it and installing it again.
