[sub]Apologies to those who have lost theirs.[/sub]

When was the last time you visited them? Are you close or is it a more distant relationship?

Is their cooking legendary?

I'm off to visit my grandparents today and tomorrow. Although they are both in homes now, my Grandmother used to make the best Rhubarb crumble imaginable. We've always been close despite the long drives our family needed to take in order to visit.

The last time I saw my grandparents was back in June. I always want to go up North to talk to them because although its hard, I know they won't be around forever. They have too many stories to tell to be ignored. So I'm off in a few minutes to go see them :)

Well Escapist, have you thought about your Grandparents recently?

On my mother's side i meet them almost once every week, they drove me to the hunting shop today to pick up my Howa, on my father's side it's more of a distance and death issue seeing how only grandma is alive and she lives several kilometers from the nearest town in the forest.

Actually motherside the cookin's pretty ''meh'' they always make bland meat and potatoes it seems. And they leave the butter outside of the fridge all the time.
Fatherside it's the occasional family barbecue, but very similar.

Motherside, my grandpa and i go hunting, he saw an elk yesterday but couldn't do anything because of trees.
Overall, they're all right.
My F grandpa sawed his ringfinger off in a wood saw, lol
And my M side grandma got crushed by a tree that grandpa sawed down once, broke her right arm and left leg or vice versa, can't remember.
Grandpa's had like fourteen heart attacks but is still pretty active.
My fathers mothers father passed away recently, i couldn't understand a word he said when he talked to me.

I'm not too bothered about it (apologies if that seems a bit callous...) but, all my grandparents have passed on. Only one of them was alive when I was born so that may explain my ambivalence (paternal grandmother, and she had Alzheimers...). The last time I visited her was in 2008 (she lived half way around the world hence why I only saw her on two occasions) and she died last year.

I'll be upset when my Dai-Guma dies, though (that's 'great-aunt', but with a slightly different connotation than in western culture), because I was her pen-pal when I was a little squit. A very generous woman, she's always good at cheering people up, especially my dad. Pity she can't travel much these days and I don't have more money(!)

On my Dad's side, I see my Nan at least once a week. She usually visits us.
My Grandad (is separated from her), not nearly as much =/ he's usually out drinking.

My Mum's side.. I haven't spoke to them in over 10 years. Lets just say they have.. issues with my Dad. And we used to have to suffer for it so I don't really care for seeing them.

On my mom's side, both of her parents are dead. Her mom died of Lou Gehrig's Disease at around sixty and her father of liver complications a year or so after that.

My dad's side is kind of... odd. My grandpa must've married and divorced maybe three women. I see all of them at the very least at birthday and holidays, but my grandpa randomly shows up every few weeks.

Can't really visit my beloved grandparents because they live in a different country, in Israel, but I love visiting them when I can. As you said, legendary cooking, and amazing kindness. I was pretty much raised by them.

All ..5 sets of grandparents are alive and well. I kinda feel bad for people who don't have any... still.. alive when I have so many and I'm not even that close to them. But due to several things happening before I was even born I ended up with 5 lots of 'em. Even so, I never really saw my Grandparents that often, due to my father being in the army we moved around a lot an we never lived close enough to visit regularly. We saw every year at Christmas if we were living in England at the time. Because of this we were never particularly close and whenever I do go to see them it's a very awkward affair.
