I've started getting into graphic novels, as I don't feel like I have to time to sit and read for hours upon hours to get a good story. I was wondering how many other people enjoy this medium, and perhaps if you could suggest some novels to me?

I'm not so much into the comic book superheroes thing, but thats seems to be pretty much the only thing that my local bookstores stock. I just never got into comics in general, but I suppose its possible a particularly good one would catch me.

The only ones I've read so far were Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 and the Serenity ones, which are basically super fan servicey, and that might be why I love them so much as I love Joss Whedon. On my radar is also other Joss Whedon related novels.

I don't really know what exists in terms of graphic novels, but I'm sure there must be awesome stuff out there, let me know!

(this is your opening to gush about your favourite one, it won't be hard to 'sell' it to me I'm sure)

EDIT: I just realised the plethora of similar threads that have existed... should've searched before I posted... sorry!

Watchmen. It doesn't matter if you like superheroes or not, read Watchmen. But for God's sake, don't watch the movie.

Rather, don't watch anything but the director's cut (which is MUCH better than the regular edition, as you get a lot of filling in it that starts to round it off closer to what the book was).

Anyways, as for my recommendation: Look into The Darkness Origins (Accursed vol 1 is good, but the other volumes...).

Hardly ever read them. The one I actually do own and enjoy reading is the graphic novel edition of the first Artemis Fowl book.

Get that. Artemis Fowl is a cool, well thought out, imaginative story.

Actually, I have seen the Ultimate Cut (with the Black Freighter woven in, added to the Directors Cut) which was a great improvement.

The movie's great. Don't understand why you hate it.
I don't know, the absence of some major subplots in the theatrical release

The death of Nite Owl I, etc

really turned me off to the film.

Ahem.

1) Brian K. Vaughn's "Y The Last Man."

2) Warren Ellis's Planetary, Transmetropolitan, Global Frequency and Fell.

3) Neil Gaiman's Sandman.

The Walking Dead is really good, and still on going. So, you would have alot of graphic novels to read, I think there is 13 volumes. Great series, but the TV show was just okay, the graphic novels are way better (in my opinion.)
