This got me thinking http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/teamt/welshy/welshy-reviews/reviews/31712-wolf-creek

Yes, I'm still addicted to scouring thatguywiththeglasses. There will come a day when I have watched everything on that site. Then I will cry. Then I will patiently await the next load of videos.

Anyway, I wasn't a big fan of wolf creek. I think I might watch it again now my film tastes have matured and I'm a lot more patient, but at the time, it dragged on a bit, and when it did kick in, it unsettled me greatly but didn't outright scare me. However, The character of mick was great. Instantly recognizeable, unstoppable yet believable, and utterly evil, and you don't know why. He acts like, somewhere in his mind, he has a reasoning behind why he does these terrible things, but such a reason is not within the grasp of a sane, morally sound mind.

It got me thinking, how many things had great characters weighed down by being in something bad.

Saw's a great example. As the series deteriorated, the character of jigsaw never did. He's human, he's scary, and he's a genius who always has a plan. You think you're safe, and then said plan comes right back at you. No matter how bad the saw films got, he was always an engaging villain.

Deadpool in Wolverine Origins, at least until the silly ending, but that's not the character's fault.
