Mirror's Edge.
Gears of War 2.
Section 8.
GTA IV.

If we're counting consoles, the PS3.

Dammit you beat me to it sir! Damn Stalin and his fixation for Gorilla Warfare...

I recently saw The Invention of Lying though, and that let me down in terms of execution. It had some really funny gags in it, some pushing the envelope (babies anyone?) but when it got serious it just got... well it's tonal shift gave me whiplash it was so sudden.

I think what I'm saying is less emotion, more baby jokes. Does that make me a bad person? My head says no, my heart says yes and my stomach says cereal. I'm so confused...

Darkest of Days. The concept is awesome, but the execution was poor. More locations than just the American Civil War please?

The sad thing is the flaws are so easily corrected. More locations: Caesar's conquest of Gaul, the Trojan War, the Thermopylae battle, Macedonia's conquest of Persia etc. Better AI, better execution of the story, Multiplayer(The standard MP modes but with a twist. For e.g. there would be a rule where you would only be able to use antiquity weapons etc)

Imagine how cool it would be to be alongside Caesar fighting barbarians, then switch to Macedonia and fight alongside Alexander the Great wielding a big ass spear and a shield, then hop into World War 2 and fight against the Americans in D day(Seriously, we need a game which lets us do this. We never get to play has a Nazi soldier) and finally fight alongside Richard the Lionheart in an attempt to capture Jerusalem.

Oh that's easy, top of my head and I didn't even have to think about it. Too Human, I mean the concept was nice, a kind of Neo-Norse, tech-fest and the concept of Baldur being 'too human' was interesting but they never capitalized on that idea.
I agree... The main draw of the game for me was the controls, which were fun. The whole Norse mythology was pretty cool too.

Until I died. Thousands of times.

The Fable series so far.

Freedom of choice in a game that became so much about the established story that they should'a given up telling you "You can do what you like."

I still play them though.

Spyro: A New Beginning. it was basically a shitty ps2 remake of the first game, with effed controls, uninteresting story and shitty puzzles. Honorable mentions goes to Dawn of War 2.

i cant exactly think of a movie...

The Abyss in Aion.

It could have been wonderful, instead it's just aload of tiny broken up islands with half of the scenery is sky.
Creative laziness.

Evil Genius, definitely. The Bond villain concept was a good start, but the game as a whole was poor; the mission process was dull and long-winded, and the Super Agents were incredibly difficult, even on the easy setting.

In short, a game that wasn't as good as it deserved to be.

Seconded on spore.

Sooo much promised, even more hype, then they produce that... a pile of mini-game crap made for seven year olds. As opposed to a real evolution simulator that could allow us to be gods. We could of been GODS!

DAAAAAMN YOU SPORE!

The game WET. Great ideas, but the game didn't live up to them. Still a fun game, mind.
I like WET in that it knows how to laugh at itself, but it did leave too many things open like WHAT HAPPENED TO ZE GERMAN FELLOW, IN CONCEPT, HE WAS MY FAVOURITE.

But i don't think the execution was crap, it could have been better, but name me one other game that can't be improved....other then DISSIDIA.
