So Lost Odyssey has just arrived and even though I have yet to start it, my first impression is a mixed bag. This is down to, "HOLY SHIT! HOW LONG IS THIS GAME?" I'll still play it and damn well try to finish it, but I'm not exactly electrified right now. I'll update as soon as I play some of it, I just was so taken aback by how many disks long it seems to be that it was just too good an opportunity to pass up. So what were some of your great first impression reactions?
Update: I've started playing now, and the things that jump out at me are:
Cutscenes: So. Many. Cutscenes. Seriously, most of my time so far has been spent watching cutscenes rather than in gameplay. Hopefully, this will get better.
Design: Seriously, the fuck is this?
That is not sensible combat attire.
Combat: Okay, this is better. Rather than just pushing "attack" and letting the game do the rest, there is a system that calls to mind Action Commands from the older Paper Mario games, where putting an input during the animation has different effects depending on what ring is equipped. I like this because I'm not completely uninvolved in the turn-based gameplay.
