have you ever played a game were every thing was awesome? the story, the setting, the game play but then you realize that the cast was just a wee bit bad (not badass just bad, plain and simple bad or awful if you want) characters you just can't seem to like or really annoying.

For me:

Kratos - GoW was great but I don't like him for the same reasons I don't like the hulk.
The whole damn cast of FF12 - the main cast are just to damn shallow.

All the Soul Calibur games...all of them...

Now don't get me wrong: the SC series are some of fighting games' finest, I just couldn't care less about the cast and why they were all after the same bloody sword. It just makes no sense: fighting over one, over-sized, eyeball-ridden sword...in a universe where GUNS exist.

At least Tekken makes it interesting by having a cast that's...well...INTERESTING...

I think FFXII was ruined for me by the cast of characters. It made all the gameplay things I could usually overlook far more annoying, because the characters that usually compensated for it weren't there.

And I've said it before and I'll say it again; Altair gets under my skin, mostly just because of his voice. He literally has no charisma. He has no emotion at all. And I couldn't quite understand him half the time, which is ironic because he was the only character in the Animus with an American accent.

Prototype suffered from this a little. I love the game and even the story, but Alex Mercer himself is kind of a dick (although, in context, I guess it kind of makes sense). But the game itself makes up for it.

Most of the other games that suffer from bad characters are games I'd put under my bad games list, because it's usually a game breaking thing for me if I don't like the characters.

I agree with everything you said except on Balthier. I think if he didn't dress so gay he would be a good character. Don't forget the cast of FFX too, almost all the characters in that game were excruciating to watch, but the gameplay and story were good.

I think the Devil May Cry series takes the cake. Dante is such a douche and so is his son or whatever (I haven't played any of the latest games).

For me it's Kingdom Hearts. I do not care about these whiny children, and stop trying to make me take Mickey Mouse seriously.

So I guess you have no expectations of Epic Mickey.

None. None at all.

My biggest problem with FFXII's characters was the last minute decision to put a 12 year old boy in as the main character. I felt the entire story would have worked incredibly well if Vaan and Penelo were completely removed and Basche was the main character - as was the original plan. Everything else was solid, but because Vaan was the main character it ruined most of the game's story for me.

Personally I found the immense lack of character development the significant flaw in FFXII. Previous games in the series made ample and consistent attempts to reel you into the lives of the characters, their hardships, and struggles (FFX performed such exceptionally well) however in FFXII one would not thought inaccurate to claim the cast did not even like each other let alone reel the player into the game.

FFXII was essentially a slight more story driven MMO, which was unfortunately because from initial launch I found each character heavily intriguing, rich with potential. The sole exemption would be Vaan, who I loathe vehemently due to his significant worthlessness.

I know i may get absolutley raped for this but Master Chief, Sure he was a cool guy in Halo 1 when he was at least partially cool, But by Halo 3 all his badassery had gone to be replaced with overpowered guns and an annoyin tendency to constantly put his gun away for about 5 seconds just to go through the wimpy little cutscene......but it went to a far more noble cause of Sgt Major Avery Johnson (the coolest character.....ever) If the Halo film ever arrives Johnson needs to be main character........also needs a really big part in Reach

Was Basche really going to be the main character? That makes a lot of sense. I couldn't get very into the game but I did really feel like he should have been top billing.
