So, pretty simple question now that we're all in the holiday spirit. What's the best gift you've ever given, and what's the best gift you've ever received? All holidays, birthdays, and "Just 'cause" gifts count.
For me, my girlfriend loves everything Victorian London and she also loves sewing and making her own clothes. She once told me about a little butterfly hairclip she saw several years ago with a needle and thread hidden in the base that she always regretted not buying. So last year, I found an antique "Nanny Brooch" from around 1880. It's goldstone and brass, and the end unscrews to reveal a little compartment to hold a needle and thread. She absolutely loves it. It's similar to this one.
As far as gift getting, My father got me a subscription to the Whisky Explorers Club. Every month, I got 4 of those mini bottles of various whiskys in black cloth bags, so you can do a blind tasting and compare what you got. There was everything from cheap honey bourbon to super expensive single-malt scotch. It was an amazing gift, and I had a ton of fun learning about different whiskys.
So escapist members, what're your favorites?
