This is not a 'how would you like to die' thread. The point of this is to ask "Whose death was the greatest?" This applies for all forms of media. Which character's death do you think was the best? And "best" can fall into all sorts of catagories. Perhaps their death was tragic. Perhaps the death was over the top, like most people in action movies. Maybe they went down in a blaze of golry, or died alone and unmourned. Perhaps it was the impact of the death, or the simple fact that you said "that's totaly how I want to die." Whose death had the biggest impact on you?

Let the insanity begin!

The Emperor. Dying in the reactor of a giant space station, with the resultant force shockwave at least partially contributing to the station's overall destruction? Fairly epic, I reckon.

Alternatively,
John Marston. It was a powerful moment. Even more so when you consider he knew what was coming, and walked out to accept it, rather than having any more blood on his hands or risking his family in any way

In his final moment this man suddenly realizes the futility of life and being killed is the sweet release from is torment.

He give's the hero a shrug to express his forgiveness and promptly moves on.

Give this man an Oscar for existentiaist acting at it's finest!

(that or he is just a really bad actor)

Steven Irwin, he was the Crocodile Hunter years ago. When he died from that stingray I was a really big fan, and to be honest I was pretty devastated about it. Only the second person in the whole world to ever get killed by one, and after all the other more dangerous stuff he had been through. What an unlucky way to go...

Leonidas.

I mean, the death itself is pretty badass, half a million arrows or so, but the events leading up to it, and the fact that he just accepted it and mourned his wife. If only he had hit Xerxes. DAMN YOU HISTORY!

Darth Vader, In one sweeping move he redeemed himself, saved his son, and won the fight for the Rebel Space Fleet. Vader, one of, no the greatest villian of all time, realised how he could not be changed, and sacrificed himself, a perfect finale for the jedi once known as Anakin Skywalker.

Frederick Barbarossa, after trudging miles through the desert with his army he drowns in a river because he's too lazy to take his armor off before he goes for a little swim.

So I read somewhere of this guy that wanted to commint suicide. So he planned to jump of a bridge\hill\high place into the river with a heavy object tied to his leg and shoot himself during the fall, he also drunk poison to ensure that he will die. In the end he jumped missed the shot and cut the rope with the bullet, the water that got into his mouth caused vomiting removing the poison from his body. He was found and taken to hospital where he died of thermal shock.

P.S. There is award for best death. It's called Darwin award.
P.S.S. (or P.P.S.) Sorry for my english.

What I thought was the most awesome death that I saw, was Bolvar Fordragon's fall at the wrathgate in wow. That clip just rocks, even though he becomes the new Lich King.

Too bad 300 is as historically accurate as Inglorious Basterds.
Other then that I'd have to agree with the others who said Elvis.
