Greatest LAN games

Me and a couple of my friends have recently started having small lan get-togethers. It´s all good fun but the routine of World In Conflict, Battlefield, Starcraft and Demigod is getting a bit old, and so I´m asking for your help to come up with new games to play. There usually are 4-6 of us and new genres are probably not going to be an issue.

Well at school a few years back, half the school was playing good old fashioned counterstrike over the school network. Pretty funny and cheap if you manage to find the installer of the cracked version.

Otherwise all I can give you is good old fashioned AOE.

If you know what your doing, or are half awake, or even just have access to a decent search engine Freelancer is amazing with friends. And while we're all waiting with bated breath for Diablo 3, I HIGHLY recommend playing Diablo 2 with your buddies. Cheers.

Or try and get your hands on copies of Total Annihilation.

The school I used to go actually was kind enough to organize a lan weekend, where all the students and teachers who wanted to could play counterstrike in the school network. Counterstrike is allways a fun game with good players. I feel so ashamed of forgetting it.

Left 4 Dead or Battlefield 2. Just absolutley great games to play together with friends.

Generally me and my friends play either Counter Strike or Halo. But we used to play a lot of Trackmania and Worms too.

the first unreal tournament(these days there is endless maps and mods)
warcraft 3 (for tower defence)
alpha centauri (for when we feel smart)
dawn of war
left 4 dead
system shock 2(although its hard to get working on XP and vista and is not very stable on them)

Warcraft 3 and its expansion, Battlefield 2 and the newer games in the C&C series of games (C&C Tiberium Wars and Red Alert 3 skirmish) are all fine games in my book.

It truly is. Have been playing a lot of 2v2 lately, and it is incredible.

My socitey in college books a room every week for a LAN session. It comes down to CS:S, Halo Custom Edition, Swat 4, TF2, L4D, Killing Floor, C&C Red Alert 1, Fear.

My Favourite is CS:S

If you have any games from the "Descent" series, they are awesome to play on a LAN; in particular Descent 2. Unfortunately it seems that not many people play it anymore but if you can get a copy it's well worth a play.
