You are correct, sir! That was the exact game I thought of bringing up when I saw the thread title.

It's too bad they didn't break down into the expansions though. Ghost Bear was better than the original, but Mercenaries is still the 2nd greatest mechwarrior game ever (behind mechwarrior 3).

Yeah, this is a survey, we're talking about casual gamers and general gamers, people who think Skyrim is the best game ever made for the fact that it is Skyrim, and not the fact that it is a good game.

That's actually a pretty sweet list. I've played all of them but Diablo 2 (which I own), and... yeah, they're all really good games. In fact, all of those games but Fallout 3 and KotOR (which are still great games) I would put on my top ten games of all time.

And I'm not going to kid myself with that test, seeing as in the first few questions I hadn't played more than half of them. I doubt many people will have

It did't work very well though, the same few games I've never played kept coming up and something called 'Oregon trail'? all the time. And there were lots of good games that never came up.

You... you haven't heard of Oregon Trail?

Um.. look it up. It's the first video game ever created.

That's not even close to true. Oregon trail was 1971... the earliest interactive electronic game comes from 1947.

Really... I think we need to rethink the whole 'Top 50' approach to PC gaming specifically.

These lists wouldn't be so damn atrocious if we confined top games to specific eras, mainly because PC's have been around for a while and aren't going anywhere anytime soon. This leaves the potential for far too many considerations.

The problem is, people get offended when their PC gem they loved growing up gets shoe-horned by a modern game like Skyrim. While these games are definitely deserving of respect, they haven't aged well (barring a few exceptions). To say that these games can compete with the vast majority of modern titles without the aid of nostalgia is more than a bit naive.

So why not keep these games on a separate list spanning releases from the late 80's to 99? I could think of at least 50 gems I could add to a list like that. Then you could have all the more modern games ranked from 00's to the present.

Classics don't get outranked by lesser titles and Modern Games can duke it out in the battle of the 9s.

I must say that every list i've seen on this topic has the same problem; Skyrim is on it. Now, i'm not by any means saying that Skyrim is a bad game. I personally think that it's the best of the Elder Scrolls series so far (with a few mods of course). I will say that I don't count it as one of the best PC games of all time. I would place Morrowind or maybe even Daggerfall on that list but not Skyrim. My reason for this is I believe that the "Top PC Games of All Time" should be games that were unique or ground-breaking for their time. I don't think that current generation sequels that didn't really bring anything new to the table should be eligible for this list.

Baldur's gate 2 really should be in the top 5, but it got screwed going against wc3 relatively early, and bg1 got screwed going against kotor. Don't know how duke nukem 3d made the top 5. It's a great game but i wouldn't put it in my top 10, let alone my top 5. Chips challenge is amazing. Everyone should play it.

Making sure everyone knew about chip's challenge was my real reason for making this post.
