Researchers have finally managed to make a proper green laser diode. This is a massive step forward to miniaturised projectors and thinner screens. I thought as a well informed technologically minded group of people, The Escapist would like to hear about it.

The green laser pointers and such like around at the moment are not green laser diodes; they actually use high powered near infra red laser diodes then run it through a crystal which halves the intensity but doubles the frequency, turning red light green!
Edit: I suppose this really should be in the news room. Any chance of a mod moving it? Or do I have to be a contributor to put it in there?
