A Hermit's Cave
To all tabletop WH40K-ers...

So, what did you think? Has Nottingham's resident Space-Marine-ophile outdone himself? or are you in like mind with me and reckon the codex is broken before you even decide to put an army list together?

ive seen some stuff in the codex that is just OP. and at my place where i do my games, ive heard alot of people are giong to play them because they are 'good'. damn, why do people don't know the difference between winning with skill, and winning because of factors you don't control.

Well I got my arse absolutely handed to me on Saturday by the new army, but now that I know what they do I would like a rematch.

I had a look around some of the models on preview... I like that the lettering is part of the model and not on transfer, but I think we have so much stuff going on for Space Marines, that the other races deserve a lot of love. I'm thinking Tyranids need some new stuff out...

almost as broken as space wolves, if not more so.

and the fluff is stupid. i know you need to make the army look good in it's own codex but these guys are being made out to be super hyper badass space mo-fo's. one piece of fluff describes one grey knight some how defeating mortarian's entire bodyguard then then killing him.

one guy takes out a primarch?

That's OtT, even for codex fluff. Reminds me why I stopped caring about 40k.

Shame, because the Grey Knights novel was pretty good, IMHO, though the sequels got hit with Black Library's general decline.

Coming from a CSM player (Black Legion siding towards Khorne but anyways), I agree. That's a load of bullshit and chips. Especially considering in the Siege of Vrax it takes the entire inquisition and one of the biggest badasses of 40k lore to simply return a very particular daemon back to the warp rather than anything else.

But im one with the Dark Eldar now so, so long as they have a soul, Im there to harvest it....I'll find a way...eventually... -.-

When the new Nid codex came out, it was broken. Same for Wolves, Angels, DE and now the Grey Knights. They are broken because we haven't had time to re-do existing strategies to beat them.

That being said, the new codex has some pretty horrific things. That Doom Knight machine thing looks ridiculously powerful.

Not seen the actual Codex yet, but bringing back the monkey from fluff used back in the Age of Stupid did not sit well for me.

If we're going to take the Jokaero seriously as a race, they'd be allied with the Tau Empire (Oh Emperor, how I hate the Tau). Would like to see how they justify them being with the Ordo Malleus, especially considering:

Attempts at capturing Jokaero and compelling them to work can have disastrous effects - they build things with which to escape.
Not happy with the display in Warhammer World that basically says "We know they're broken". There's a poster with 5 Grey Knight Paladins that says something along the lines of "These guys are 380pts, bring something of equal points and try your luck in store!".

To put it into context, I ran a 2000pt Grey Knight/Land Raider spam army (4 x Grey Knight squads/2 x Land Raiders/2 x Stormravens/minimal Grandmaster).

I won in 3 against Blood Angels, but it was one of the most boring games I've ever played. Yes, every one of my guys has a force weapon, yes, every one of my guys is a psyker with effective S 5, shooting S 5 etc.

Matt, I love you and all, but this was ridiculous!

Yay! First Tau-hater!

Actually, they have good guns, but compared to a lot of other armies, they honestly can't shoot them... relatively few models have BS 4.

Pulse Rifle fire is magnetically attracted to the Power Armour my marines wear. That, and with the exception of the Eldar they embody the massive "Go mech or go home" spirit that has flooded 40K of late.

Plus, they think they're the good guys. Silly xenos.

Tyranids JUST had stuff put out and what they have already scares me ='( I say orks (just cause i play em) or some nice eldar.

How do they play? Their mandrakes and harlequins are, imo, some of the most beautiful models in the 40k universe. If it wasn't for money restraints i would be buying them in a heartbeat =/

Quite so, the godless infidels! ^_^

Not counting the Tyranids, the Tau are the only race without a god (or gods)... aren't they?

Considering the loose definition of a god in 40k, it could be argued that their Etherals fit the description. Assuming you skip the hinted Eldar influence there. Certainly there are so many creatures that fit the description of a 40k god that you could almost call their "Greater Good" their god.

Which basically puts them on the same level as the blasphemy of the Tyranids. There's only one solution to such blasphemy.

I don't know as they're overpowered but they're certainly high powered. I think I could take them down with a good kabalite strike force. One squad of reaver jetbikes, plus an Archon and a squad of kabalites would make a mess of even a squad of their terminators. My personal pick would be Disintergrator ravagers and Scourges with blasters coupled with my mobile fire force above to blunt their army. After that I'd hit them with wyches (4+ invulnerable save in combat) and that Archon to mess their command squad up (if I can get that soul trap filled I'm good), in fact I may even go to GW and try my best at fucking their store army up.
My kneejerk response was to go: BULLSHIT!

Off the top of my head, if you take a maxed out (20 @ 200pts plus Sybarite's power weapon) squad of Kabalites, you're 4s and 5s in assault and even if you get the charge on 5 GKT's, you're dealing only 7 wounds which gets rid of one (statistically). The GKT's hit back on 4s and 2s because of Hammerhand. No, if you're going to use DE, Wyches all the way. And let's not forget that once a GK has Terminator armour, with base weaponry 4+ inv in CC as well, so the Wyches are the only ones who can stand up to them.

Besides, I reckon the power armoured up GK's are bad enough as it goes (20pts for something better than a normal SM + force weapon + psyker = fuck off!)

Jokaero are the new obliterators right? Fuck sakes we need a new Chaos space marine codex badly, dual lash isn?t gonna cut it now even our obliterators have been copied for Grey knights.

And the primarch beaten by a Grey knight? Sounds like bullshit.

Ruined. And to think I was considering getting into 40K with them. Well, It's back to my lovely despicable rats.
