Sorry if I'm repeating myself at this point, I'm just always glad when I can actually offer some help to someone.

EDIT: Oh, and never read Youtube comments. Just, don't do it.
No problem, you had a lot of great stuff to say, much of which I found very relevant. Thanx.

AS for most youtube comment, I ignore them but there are those sneaky SOBs who start talking to you and lead you on a wild goose chase just to hurt you. Real Pro-Assholes.

Thanks again.
Indeed, and it's the worst on Youtube because you always assume the people who take the time to think out proper responses wouldn't do that.

And okay, I'll be fair, there are times when I'll engage someone in a troll-war or something if they're claiming something with absolutely zero base or have ridiculously insane views.

For instance, the other week someone made a "Dark Souls isn't hard, just annoying!!!!11!!1!one!!!!1" thread, and I spent much longer than I should have stating how he was entitled to his opinion, but his analysis of the game mechanics held absolutely no basis in fact and about an hour after he made the thread it devolved into him and one other member just throwing out insults to everyone who tried to explain how Demon's/Dark Souls actually works, calling everyone mindless fanboys and the like. (Just for the record, I don't own Dark Souls and have never beaten Demon's, I was just sticking up for the actual genre the games are designed to be in because I like to think of myself as mildly educated on such things, regardless of their appeal to me.)

Having a strong sense of your own self worth is the best defense against the little barbs and stings of life - especially those on the Internet, where people are notoriously less human than they really ought to be. That's not anything easier to acquire than a thicker skin is, but that's really what you need if you want to make it through this thing we call life in less than a thousand broken pieces. The things is, most people look to others to find their value, but that's always going to be a variable source - know who you are and what you are about and that you are the best you can be - and if you're not, start there and become that first. Then you'll be okay.

And stay sensitive - just be selective in your reception of certain elements. If we all "desensitize" then... well it's not going to be a better world, I can say that with some certainty.
You have brought some great clarity to things I questioned and toiled over. Thankyou for your insight.
You're welcome. I hope you get to where you need to be. :)

While I liked being quoted (Yes, it's my ego and yes, it's bigger than yours) this is one of the few times where I don't understand why I am quoted in the first place. Could you enlighten me please?

I was going on about the whole "ignoring people you don't agree with" and decided to truthfully state that I don't always ignore people that have views which grate my nerves. I suppose I should've left the edit in your post in my quote.

It all depends on the mindset with which you use the internet. People will say something mean, but think about it like this: they don't know you so it's impossible for an insult to be genuinely personal. Usually it's just a mean-spirited person who sees it as an important goal to get everybody else to feel as bad as they do about life. They're just projecting. Besides that, it might be someone who disagrees with an idea you've put forth. If their reply is malicious in nature, it means they're just too immature to reply in a civilized way.

Consider it this way: You're an evolutionary step above those people because you care about how what you say, albeit anonymously, might affect another person. Treat their negative comments (the unreasonable ones anyway) with contempt. Then they can't hurt you :)

P.S.: On the other hand, being TOO sensitive makes real debate impossible, because an overly-sensitive person will see every argument against theirs as a personal attack. Here's to hoping you're not in that group! Reasonably sensitive is good though :) Hope I helped. My post was longer than I expected it to be haha

Aaaaah, thank you very much, that's one of the problems with the "snip" command. Now it makes perfectly sense and yes you are right. Siding with "trolls" while knowing they are wrong is as wonderfully stress relieving as it gets. (Oh and you didn't need to quote my entire quote this time only because you did it in the first, you know. I'm not thaaaaat stupid :D)

Which brings us to another point:
Be a backstabbing b*tch and agree at first and stab to death later. Very satisfying indeed!

Plus my friends are dicks and i am to them, so we learned to not really be too bothered by stuff. Hell, my one friend lost his legs and the first thing I did after calling the ambulance was just start ragging on him about how he was no longer the tallest one of us anymore.
Wait, he lost his legs? How on earth did that happen? And he survived?

A train cut them off and either pinched the vessels or the heat/friction melted them shut. I dont know, when the doctor said i wasnt really listening, I just remember the doctor saying it was a miracle and I said something witty and degrading to my friend.

REDO: ...wtf, internet. just refresh on me, why don't you... rat bastard.

*sigh* ok. redo my paragraph. I'll paraphrase:

You're getting invested because you're arguing with people. Stop it. There are no people on the internet. You may meet nice people occasionally, but they are the exception to the rule. And the rule is that the internet is filled with assholes. To become not invested, you must become aloof. To become aloof, you must stop talking with people, and start talking with avatars, with voices, with disembodied thoughts. But do not talk with people.

If you want to stop the assholes from getting to you, you will, ironically, have to become a sarcastic bastard yourself, most likely. Again, exceptions to the rule, and I'm only one person, my own example is hardly the rule.

To grow a skin, be aloof. Look at everyone like they're tiny insignificant wretches and KNOW that you are better than them. When you know that, their words mean nothing to you.

Laughing at their stupidity also helps. Because assholes are also naturally stupid.

Naturally.

This may sound a bit sadistic (or masochistic if you'd do it to yourself) but in order to "grow" a thick skin, you need to receive more criticism, the harsher the better. It will hurt at first, but it's the only way to be able to become used to it. I'm not saying to just go out to a random person and have them throw harsh insults at you for a half hour, but if you want insult immunity, this would be what you would need to do. Trust me on this, I have a thick skin thanks to my prior college experience in the art field. Our teachers told us all the time to take each criticism with a grain of salt because art is subjective and not everyone is going to like what you do.

Have another quote, because I simply wanted to say that you made me laugh out loud for a few minutes with both of those points that I left in. But I fear that I have nothing left to say on-topic for this thread, so I must bid it adieu.

Oh just something I found out...

Call your online superhero (google) and use his power to start dismissive funny "I'don't give a f*ck" statements with appealing visual aids. Those with better Graphics (or looks) always wins... especially concerning trolls!

Forgive me for my ignorance, but I've never really understood how people actually get hit by trains. A car, maybe. But a small, agile person? I mean, trains are not exactly silent... Furthermore, he'd have to have been laying across a track to get his leg chopped off.

whyyyy... >_<

They dont have to be silent when you play chicken with them. Something my friends and I do when we need a cheap thrill is we run across train tracks and see how close the train can get before we stop. my friend ran across, made it, the train went by, he got pulled back by the air getting sucked in as the train goes by and got caught. he would have went completely under if i was(EDIT that should be wasnt, I dont want it to sound liek I would just push him under)nt there and pulled him back.

He didnt lose his manhood you mean? No, he didnt. his legs got cut off half way between the knee and hip. Not to go into too much detail on his dangle, but he had a comfrotable 2 inches between the wheels and his manhood.

...

though I think since his balls have grown, since he still plays chicken with the train even in a chair, which is impressive cause a wheel chair can get stuck in between the rails easily and it significantly slows your speed and momentum going across.

What Say You?
How do you deal with the internet and have you recently had an altercation online?
Been on the internet hardcore for about...oh....5-6 years. I'm a very sensitive guy IRL. I'm 23 and when someone yells at me for !@#$ing something up, I tend to take it super super hard. :(

Now, when I began my forays online on a now-almost-dead site known as armageddongames (AGN), I was a total and complete noob. I said stupid things, I took everyone seriously, etc. And I got burned pretty bad once or twice because of my sheer stupidity.

Over time, though, I've gotten desensitized. I hate to say it, but unless someone REALLY leaves a positive impression on me, most forum posters are just automatic text creating machines to me. I don't see the human behind it. When Someone insults me, I tend to shrug it off, since I no longer have that "human connection" with the average internet user.

I haven't had the misfortune of having a mic in a room full of haters in any online game yet, but my typical response would likely be "Oh grow the !@#$ up." and mute them.

But I understand where you're coming from. Over time, you'll likely feel the same way I do, and then you won't get hurt by those idiot assholes who fling hate just so they can feel less pathetic that they just put down someone across a screen.

EDIT:
