Is it too soon to start inviting people? The game is still a couple of weeks away (online like a month away) and it might just suck. Probably not but you know what I mean. Anyway, 'at my age' I don't get much time to play games and as interesting as GTAOnline looks, I don't want to jump in and find myself surrounded by idiots screaming random racial slurs. So I started a crew. Unfortunately I have very few personal friends who own a ps3. As this is the only game site where I can read the comments (well, most of them) without weeping for the future, I thought I'd ask around here to see if anyone wants to join.

All ages, sexes, races, religions, nationalities, and whatever else welcome. We're categorized as "Thrill Seekers" because I figure much of our time will be spent finding really high places and jumping from them...occasionally with parachutes. We don't really need people who take the game too seriously but we don't exactly want trolls and griefers either. We just need other weirdos who like to hang out and have fun. There will be plenty of heists and action but right now most of us are old so we'll probably be listening to the Soul/Funk stations on the way to the heists and (now that I've heard the clip http://www1.rollingstone.com/hearitnow/player/eastlosfm.html ) the crazy Mexican music station during the getaway.

Anybody else have a crew I might be interested in? I understand you can be in more than one.

Anybody else have a crew I wouldn't be interested in but others here might be? Post links.

The way GTA Online is being promoted (like a seperate entity) does anyone know if I have to pay for it seperate to the main game or not?

Because it sounds amazing but I find it odd that it's being talked about as 'GTA Online' rather than GTA V's online mode.

When you say all races and nationalities are welcome, does that mean you'll accept members who live in a country so far away from you that when they join a game their ping will make everyone else lag out?

While egalitarianism is as good as xenophobia is bad, when organising online gaming it can pay to discriminate against people based on their location.

I've got a crew of my own and hypothetically, if I was recruiting (which I'm not because my crew is so exclusive that only I make the grade), then I'd probably only accept people from within the UK to keep our gameplay experience as lag free as possible (and even then I'd have no qualms about booting someone if their connection was so bad it ruined the game for everyone else).

You don't have to pay separate for it but it sounds like it'll have an online pass or something. "it's free for anyone who buys a new copy of GTAV." It's probably going to have it's own separate dlc too.

Nationality can also mean where you're originally from but Sure. It might work out. Sometimes I only get to game in the middle of the night or early in the morning so some Indonesian friends wouldn't be bad; who am I kidding, those kids run around with real guns. I've played other games with groups of people from all over the place.

Dan houser has actually commented saying he wants it all to be one big world. He is going to add a new location with every GTA release (i would assume he will add liberty city too) which sounds promising a) for the fact that they will continue to make more GTAs, b) GTAO could potentially be a HUGE persistanr world with multiple cities and locations with so much to do rivalling any MMO for both scale and sheer number of activities

Not to mention how persistant this world is going to be. Apparantly if you rob a liquor store with a buddy e.g you go in and actually rob it while your buddy covers the exit and you other buddy waits in the car. ONLY you will actually get the cash and you have to decide how you split it with your buddies. On a similar note you see another bunch of guys hit a liquor store theres nothing stopping you and your buddies intercepting them on their way back with the cash (any cash you have on you is for the taking so you have to use ATMs to deposit it) Also say your buddy is involved in a race. Theres nothing stopping you and your other buddies blocking the road for his opponents (even if you arent in the race).

I can see this game being huge and crews are going to be as significant as MMO guilds/clans with even more back stabbing and politics

Honestly I'm more of a lone wolf instead of a person to go into a crew.
That way I get more money my way. :D

... I wonder if I could be like a mercenary?
You can hire me, but I take a pretty large cut.

The only crew I would join part-time and work up the ladder would be an Official Escapist Crew.
Other then that, not interested in other clans/crews.

And if anyone screws with me, I will go Taken (The original) on their ass.
It will not have a good end.

Can't see it being a great strategy unless you're somehow incredibly good at the game and better equipped than anyone else. GTA being GTA, and assuming the lock-on system is intact, player skill probably isn't going to count for all that much. Why pay extra money for a "mercenary" when you can achieve the same effect by just grabbing some random guy who won't demand a bigger piece of the take?
