Guardians of the Galaxy Co-Writer: James Gunn Will Write and Direct Sequel

In an interview with website The Wrap, Guardians script co-writer Nicole Perlman confirmed Gunn will both direct and write the second movie.

Guardians of the Galaxy is still a week from theaters, and early buzz has already put expectations for it through the roof. With the film expected to be a smash-hit at the box office and yet another feather in the cap of Marvel Studios, the co-writer of the script has now stated that director James Gunn will return to both write and direct the second Guardians movie.

Speaking in an interview with website The Wrap during this week's San Diego Comic-Con, Nicole Perlman said that while Gunn will be returning she was uncertain of her own availability. "I would definitely love to work with Marvel again in the future," she said.

The Wrap notes that there has been no official announcement from Gunn, though its possible such word will come later today at the Marvel Studios panel. Retaining Gunn makes a lot of sense for Marvel, based on the incredibly strong early review from advance screenings and analyst predictions that Guardians will make about $60 million its opening weekend.

I hope it makes a shit-ton of money. They deserve to for having the balls to put a talking raccoon and a humanoid tree in a mainstream movie, while everyone else plays it ultra-conservative and by the book.

James Gunn is a pretty funny guy. Pretty sure he will do great work.

Check out PG-Porn.

But yeah, I am really excited about Guardians, gonna see it in the original version though because the trailer for the German synchronisation sounded aweful.

The first one isn't even fucking out yet. Talk about counting chickens before they've hatched.
True!

Also true.

I think I want this movie to succeed but it is the height of hubris to tempt fate like this. Everything I've seen of the movie looks good, but its still a 'to be confirmed'.

I'm hoping the projections match up with the reality, I really want this movie to succeed. I've been fooled by trailers before but the main cast just seems to mesh well enough to make it work and I've high regard for Gunn's ability to deliver. Here's to my faith in this not being dashed upon the rocks because someone forgot to keep the flame alive in the lighthouse.

Believe me, it's a really well done, emotional and entertaining movie (I've seen it in a press showing). Don't expect too much story, though.
