Hulk is kind of "if you ask, we'll acknowledge it, but please don't ask." Not helping is that it took them three tries to settle on an actor for Dr. Banner (admittedly, the third one was the charm on that one) and he ain't in that one, so while there's nods to continuity in SHIELD and the Hulk movie was chock full of Avenger Easter eggs and the obligatory end scene, it's probably the weakest of all the Marvel movies since this thing got off the ground (with the possible exception of Iron Man 2, which was just... terrible, or at least the villains made it feel like that).

If you had told me just two years ago they were going to make a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, I would have laughed. I'm still laughing, but now it's different. It's more of a prideful-I-told-you-so-and-it's-hilarious-laugh, rather than a that's-ridiculous-who-would-even-make-that? laugh. Laughter all around, but a different kind.

It's like the difference between an ice cream sandwich and a bologna sandwich. They're both sandwiches, but so not the same.

I'm probably the only one unimpressed by the whole thing. All I see is the same exact blueprint that was used on all the other superhero flicks that not only never bring anything new or interesting, but doesnt even want to. I dont know... in the world of generic movie making I just want something that takes chances and tries to be a bit more profound than bang and boom.

Well, i'm not sure what your after. This film is, as far as mainstream audiences go, VERY risky as outside of comic book buffs, this is an unheard of franchise... or may as well be.

Also..

Watchmen (Love it or hate it) Was a big chance movie and in my opinion turned out fantastically.

Likewise with Sin City, but not a superhero flick.

Kick-Ass was another big risk taker in the comic book superhero adaptation that turned out amazing.

To be fair, the ENTIRE marvel movie-verse continuity was a big chance and very new as it had never been done before to the best of my knowledge. I can't think of a single other movie based universe that the continuity spreads across multiple franchises and this many films.

Currently there are 8 films released in the same universe, across 5 franchises, (Iron man - 3films, Thor - 2 films, Hulk, Captain America and The Avengers) plus a tv series (Agents of Shield). A further 2 new movie franchises (at least) in production (Ant Man, Guardians of the Galaxy), plus no less than 4 new films from the current 5 franchises in production or already signed off on(Captain America 2, Avengers 2 & 3, Thor 3). Coupled with that the 4 new TV Franchises Airing on Netflix next year (Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Daredevil and Iron Fist) that will share the universe and continuity, i don't see how this ISN'T new and exciting. Nothing comes close to this in scope and risk.

I'd like to know what out of the comic book/superhero world WOULD get you excited and you would think is new and interesting or chancy. Not being snarky if it sounds like it, i'm genuinely interested.

Marvel loves Hulk and is trying to figure out how to do another Hulk movie.
Also, it only took them one try. They got Edward Norton and he was great. They were happy and everyone was pretty happy....except Edward Norton didn't want to play Bruce Banner again, so they were forced to recast Bruce Banner.

This is my favorite article ever for two reasons:

Number 1: It made me aware that there is a Guardians of the Galaxy trailer out which I somehow missed. It may have to do with this rock I've been living under. Said trailer looks amazing and Chris Pratt is rapidly becoming my favorite actor ever.

The following is from someone with little to no knowledge of the Marvel universe other than from the films. Take from that what you will.

This will be the biggest "make it or break it" moment for Marvel superhero movies since The Avengers. Truth be told, I'm not sure if this one will succeed.

A big reason why The Avengers paid off so handsomely was because of the huge build-up. Marvel was able to ease John/Jane Q. Public into it by introducing the characters one by one in their respective films. The world building was careful and organic, with various background elements connecting in a reasonably plausible fashion. By the time all the disparate superheroes joined forces, the audience knew who each and every one of them were and had a good frame of reference to work from.

Here though? They're going to get thrown without preamble into a weird and wacky sci-fi setting that appears to be only tangentially related at best to the theme and setting of previous films. It doesn't help that the superheroes on display here don't have the same household recognition that the Avengers team does. Most people will have at least heard of Captain America or the Hulk, but ask them who Rocket Raccoon is and you'll probably just get a blank stare (the only reason I knew the name was from an Angry Joe video rant about Marvel Vs. Capcom 3's DLC).

I'm not saying the movie will be bad (though I haven't been too impressed by what I've seen so far), it's just that I think this will be a hell of an uphill struggle if Marvel expects this to be as successful as their "mainstream" superhero movies.

yes very true. I like that they've made him look aggressive. Not that I follow Guardians that closely, but was a little worried that he and Groot would end up Jar Jar-ified

didn't Marvel and Norton have a fall out of some sort? real shame, I liked his Banner, and that CGI Hulk after the Ange Lee Hulk was such an improvement.

That was HORRIBLE.
Probably the single worst thing about that movie.
Without the horrible scene transitions and with better CGI it would've probably been a fairly decent movie. But it was just painful to watch - constantly getting pulled out of the movie with a stupid comic book panel popping in, or because you see the Hulk bouncing around like he has no mass, or you notice Hulk's terribly animated pants and eye-melting colors...

Why you'd choose to hobble a movie by mimicking the limitations of a medium that tries its best to be cinematic...that's just daft. That's circular regressive logic...

Damn I wish Jennifer Connelly had played Betty in The Incredible Hulk.
She's magnificent and PERFECT for the part...and Liv Tyler is...meh.

Guardians of the Galaxy were always characters that made me go "WTF?!" whenever they made an appearance in a cartoon, but in a good way. I'm glad they're getting a big movie, and the cast choices alone are pretty damn solid. This poster only cements my impression of the movie's huge potential, as I really enjoy the cocky humour, and I hope it carries over to the final product.

See, for 24 it doesn't really matter. There's no immersion to break. The show constantly has a clock popping up and it's constantly going to commercials.
Movies are 2 hour long immersive stories to get lost in. It's bad enough when regular flaws in a movie drag you out of the suspension of disbelief without adding pointless intentional immersion-breakers in on top of it.
It's ridiculous to make a Hulk movie that tries to be all emotional and deep and then periodically breaks its stride to all but literally go and scream "THIS IS BASED ON A COMIC BOOK U GAIS!!!" as blatantly as it can...in case you forgot(?).
