Well, as much as I hate them, it seems the only way for directors to make a decent game based movie is the hard way: Climbing over the bodies of previous failures. Except that they seem to be going nowhere.
Yeah it seems to be that as soon as they reach the top of the pile of bodies they trip and fall down. Then they lay there... happy to fester in the sewage of suck. Okay that was pushing the metaphor a little far. It would be interesting to see how they make the God Of War Movie. I'll keep a look out for it.

DAM YOU UWE BOLL.

Ruined the Video Game to Movie genre.
Who else wanted to commit suicide after watching Alone in the Dark, Bloodrayne or House of the Dead.
and NOOOOO!!! he has the rights to Far Cry
I can safely say I didn't want to commit suicide. Homicide, though? Most definitely.
DAMNIT am I the only one here that can laugh at cheesy movies AND POSTAL WAS FUNNY!
Never got to see Postal, but every other Boll movie I have tried to watch (Alone in the Dark, In the Name of the King, and Bloodrayne) bored me too much to even bother with any more of his movies.

Everyone who says Vin Diesel should be Kratos needs to be shot in the most agonising manner possible.

Just because he's been in action movies, has a shaved head and plays games does NOT mean he will remotely be a good person to play Kratos. Or anyone for that matter. He is a terrible actor.

There are plenty of others who would be more than capable of handling the role. And far better. Not to mention the relative unknowns.

Zack Snyder could direct it well enough. Possibly Guillermo Del Toro. There are plenty of directors that would be a good choice.
Its probably the least likely thing in world history, but to me, the ideal director would be Quentin Tarantino. He's one of the most respected - nay, revered directors in Hollywood today, and yet exclusively makes these hyper gory movies. He can add deep character nuances as well as crazy ass fight scenes involving Japanese schoolgirls with maces - this is exactly what we need.
Quentin Tarantino has more of a habit of just acquiring movies and labelling them as 'Quentin Tarantino Presents..' I don't know that GoW needs a hyper-bloody gore-fest for a movie. Violence, sure, but I'm thinking more epic compared to gory. More 300, less Kill Bill. Only not a 300 clone. Needs its own identity.

Though I think we can all agree that Uwe Boll should not have it. Hell, I recall reading that he was telling people that Hideo Kojima and Blizzard offered him Megal Gear Solid and World of Warcraft, then they officially outed him in public interviews saying they did not want him anywhere NEAR their creations.

Now, I think that's going a bit far, but I agree. The original Tomb Raider was decent, but every other one sucked hard.

Which is definitely what's going to happen with a God of War movie, I assure you. An awesome concept for a game, but a stupid one for a movie.
Really? A mad warrior trying to kill Ares the God of War after he was driven insane by said God killing his wife and child is a bad idea for a movie? Let say that is crazy. Greek tragedy is a perfect for a back drop for any movie of this sort. Trying to kill the God of War is just an awesome plot device.

And Kratos MUST be Vin Diesel.
Yes. Just... YES!
No, his movies tend to unamnimously suck. Even if he is a gamer, he needs to be an actor first.

I'm going with Jaffe's first choice, Djimon Hounsou. As Kratos spends the entire time with artifically bleached skin, race isn't likely to be an issue.
Have you watch "Find Me Guilt"? Tell me he really sucks after you do.

It is not Vin Diesel's fault that the movies sucked. Many good actors have been in movie that have sucked. I also seriously disagree with people who think that "The Chronicles of Riddick" sucked. I thought movie was a good action Sci-Fi romp. Sure it was not 5 star, but it was not Uwe Boll shit either.

Djimon Hounsou also happens to be African American. While I don;t think that is a bad thing, Kratos is Spartan. Which means he is Greek. Does Djimon Hounsou look Greek in ANY way? It is like casting Jake Gyllenhaal as a Persian Prince.

At least Vin Diesel could pull off the Greek look. He is also a good actor, despite what people like to say.

What ever. Your just another hater. Again, go watch "Find Me Guilt". Diesel has acting chops if you want to admit it or not.

I like Brett Ratner, the Rush Hour movies were great. Why would him directing this be a bad thing?
Do the words X-Men: The Last Stand mean anything to you?
Be fair, The X-men movies were to be a series of six, but later were truncated to three based purely on financial and talent idiocy. How do you wrap up a six movie set-up in one film, especially when the talent is tearing themselves away from the franchise unexpectedly and with little lead time (the X-Men III video game was already being developed with the belief that Night Crawler would be in the movie... who wasn't in the movie?) The first two movies were very solid.

Truer words were never spoken. They came close with Silent Hill, I think the time is coming. God of War is a strong action concept with a big budget and a pretty accessible / manipulative story-line. As long as they keep true to the roots of the story and world and forget about making the movie equivalent of quick-time events when fighting a troll they should be good...

But I'm not betting on this pony.

Vin diesel...r u serious...Am i the only one that thinks thats a GOD AWFUL IDEA. The only way to make a terrible script even worse is to put vin disel in it. (See all his previous movies). There is ZERO reason to make a God of War movie. There's nothing to prove no new secrets to unfold, just another take on greek mythos. Movies shouldn't be made for the sake of just being made. Unless ur expecting terrible acting. bad cg. and wire stunts out the ass. Seriously think about this before you start ranting how awesome VIN DEISEL would be in a loin cloth covered in white and red body makeup, flailing cg scimiatrs around his head at equally badly rendered monsters. Flying through the air on stunt wires and screaming I AM THE GOD OF WAR. Oh yea don't forget how cool the spells would be. Oh and that Rodriquez woman thats in all his movies as Medusa....
