Throughout my stay here at the escapist, i've noticed many reoccurring themes to topics and posts. in some areas, it seems like many people have unhealthy outlooks on areas of life. I have always been a strong advocater for developing a healthier mind and psyche. so, I would like to develop a list of Guidelines for a Better Life. this list will consist primarily of philosophical and psychological guidelines, but may also include health related guidelines as well.
I'm going to need some help writing this list, so feel free to add suggestions, and feel free to try to improve existing guidelines/suggestions

-Avoid needlessly bragging or boasting about yourself, as few want to hear it.

-Start everyday by telling yourself 'today will be a great day', even if you think it won't.

-When provoked, avoid acting aggressive or passive-aggressive, yet do not become submissive.

-Don't let yourself be easily angered by small things. Just say 'owell', and go on with your day.{Ex: guy cuts you off on the road, person does something moronic, etc}

-

---I'm tired, so I'll probably come back and add more to this list later. but feel free to add suggestions for this list.

- Be confident in who you are. Acknowledge your strengths, and try to improve your weaknesses. Appreciate yourself.

- Set realistic goals. That isn't to say you shouldn't aim for the stars, but do it step by step. You possess a body that can do just about anything one can imagine - the possibilities are endless.

- Don't over-analyze. Seriously, nothing good ever comes from it. You'll drive yourself nuts.

- The right mindset can vastly improve a poor situation. You have the power to change anything, including how your day will turn out; take advantage of it.

-Most importantly: Life goes on. We make mistakes, we mess up - it happens - it's who we are. What's important is remembering that getting knocked down isn't failing, refusing to get back up is. Chin up.

- Tell the people you care about how much you love them, and show it every day. They are important in making your world what it is.

- Never tell someone you love them when you really don't. Don't pretend to love, or even like.

- Read. Just read a book, a comic, a manga, a newspaper.

- Smile at people on the street. It will make your day, and theirs, better.

... why does this make me feel like we're re-writing the Desiderata? [http://www.fleurdelis.com/desiderata.htm]

- Thank people when they do something. This could be a bus driver, waiter, shop assistant, etc. Being friendly can make such a difference to someones day.

-Keep a diary, a notebook, even just a piece of paper next to your bed to write down all those thoughts that plague your mind when you try to sleep.

Have the stength of mind to change those ill's you can change.
The strength of will to endure those you can't.
And the wisdom to know the difference.

It's a bit 'traditional', but works for me.

I love you all.

Now then:

Madness. A man needs a little madness.

I just finished watching Zorba the Greek.

Also, it's lefty-loosey; righty-tighty.

When jumping a car, connect the BLACK end of the DEAD BATTERY'S cable to the CAR FRAME.

Don't blow into a vagina, you can give her an embolism.

Artists: never sleep with your models.

Models: go ahead and sleep with her; she totally wants you.

Semi-colons make you seem pretentious.

Everything you need to know about women you can learn from rock and roll.

Drive a manual transmission car. Not only is it a good skill to have, but it's an order of magnitude cheaper to replace it versus an automatic transmission.

I forgot this one.

- Never nod your head, smile and laugh, pretending you understood what somebody just said. It will come back to bite you.

How about "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

I just made that up on the spot, by the way.

-Violence always makes you calm and happy

-wake up early, it really is beneficial to you.

-Do not think about "this would be a good place to dump a body" while talking and/or driving
