While reading: http://www.arena.net/blog/talking-heads-vo-and-dialogue-in-gw2

I listened the the audio clip and noticed the narrator they had in the Audio Clip sounds very similar to the narrator of Baldur's Gate. Are they the same voice or is it just me and they just sound similar? If it is the same narrator voice that will be amazing!

What do you mean? Peter North is the only male actor in all video games. Haven't you been watching "Unskippable"? ha!

In all honesty, I have no idea. I haven't played Baldur's Gate.

No, it isn't. The narrator in Baldur's Gate was actually the same guy who also did the voice for Sarevok: Kevin Michael Richardson

And anyone who didn't play Baldur's Gate should hang their heads in shame and are henceforth to call themselves 'the unfortunate ones' until they have rectified this grand mistake in their shallow, hollow lives.

He sounds so much like him. I don't know if they're the same person, but I'd be willing to believe so. The diction and voice are very similar. If it isn't the same person, it must at least be some sort of homage to Baldur's Gate.

Edit: Actually the voice is a little less deep, and the "s"s are more pronounced. Also, the voice gets a bit coarse sometimes.

well just to make sure I twitted the Guild Wars 2 twitter account asking them, since they havent announced any of the actors besides the one of the main characters in one of the trailers.

Great. I can't wait to hear him remind me that I must gather my party before venturing forth; it'll be just like old times.

"Dude, Minsc is like TEN FEET AWAY, just let me GO!"

that would be funny. :)

though sadily I think he might not be a narrator but just a character voice actor becuase they said that "To help you get a feel for the level of immersion you?ll experience while walking the streets of Divinity?s Reach, we asked one of our talented voice actors to read the next few paragraphs aloud. We then layered in-game sounds over his dialogue to give you a sense of the rich soundscape in Guild Wars 2. When you?re ready to begin, play the sound clip below and read along!"

So it could mean that he is a narrator or just a voice actor they asked to read the paragraphs. It would be cool if they were both. :)

All in the ear of the beh...earlder...I guess, but that really doesn't sound like KMR to me.

Though, I'll admit, the delivery -is- very similar, mostly in the kind of 'ye wake up in yon dungeon, ye see a flask, get ye flask?' kind of narration.

Baldur's Gate is actually a shitty game by today's standards. It's based on AD&D 2nd Edition which is a horribly broken system for a computer game. The story's good, but the gameplay just isn't tolerable anymore.

I disagree so hard it's a wonder your head hasn't exploded... actually, maybe it has, and I'm currently typing a reply to a headless corpse. Regardless, I say you're wrong. Very wrong. And that you're a godless heathen with a corrupt and twisted soul incapable of feeling love, since that's the only possible explanation for what you just typed.

That's how much I think you're wrong.

I'm not wrong, you're just a masochist who enjoys painful game mechanics.

Aren't you the one also defending that Deadliest Warrior game? If so then you are far more masochistic than I could ever hope to be, brother. I bow before a true master at the art of self flagellation!

But no, I'm not wrong by the way. You are. I have a multitude of reviews, retrospectives, and a legacy of perfection on my side. Meanwhile you defend a game universally slammed as terrible in another topic, while attempting to degrade and belittle one of the highest rated and most fondly loved games of all time in this topic. Bluntly put it reeks of trolling, although I could be wrong as my troll detector is currently in the shop for repairs.

Regardless I suspect this could go back and forth all evening and I've little urge to see this escalate beyond vaguely sarcastic sniping. Let us simply say I have my own likes and dislikes, while you have yours. I don't intend to follow this further, it would only get ugly.

It's quite simple. AD&D 2nd Edition was a horrible system while it was current, and in computer form it was even worse. When Baldur's Gate came out, that was all there was so people put up with it, but a simple percentile system like RuneQuest would have been far, far better. By the time 3rd Edition was released people were begging for something to upgrade from 2nd Edition, and at its core it's a better system, although it presents some new problems, and it also works much better for a computer game. Any system based on 3rd Edition actually has some longevity because 3rd Edition was actually designed as opposed to just cobbled together in a random fashion.

Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance did the right thing in completely designing a new game mechanic rather than relying on 2nd Edition.

Well, I hope they reply, I'd be very interested to hear the answer. But did you ask if it's the same guy or if they intentionally got one that sounds like him? Or did you simply ask if it's the same guy?

Ha ha yea, but it's not minsc's fault not with the head injury.

OT: they are very similar but there might be a common voice filter or something.
