Hey everyone,

I am looking for combo systems similar to the Guild Wars 2 combo system:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Combo

Basically, I am looking for combo systems that encourage (multiple) players combining their skills to form new, merged combo effects. These combo systems do not necessarily have to be from MMOs, any genre is appreciated.

I have been playing GW2 casually for about a year and I did not know about this combo system. I noticed the effects before but assumed they were just random. -__-

You mean no body ever mentioned it, it's a pretty basic part of the combat system.

Also I am unaware of other MMO's that have similar systems. I have heard that ESO has a sort of combo system but I am unsure if this is true and to what extent it functions to.

FF: Crystal Chronicles has something like it, if the right attacks are used targeting the same area, the result is better than the sum of its parts.

Also, the Tales of series usually has a unity attack, where all party members launch an attack and some my have combined effects.

Wow, it actually a decent part of combat. What class do you play?
I don't know if the game every really gives you a guide for that though. I hear they are planning to introduce something to explain how the game works a bit better.

Dragon Age Origins has spell combos: http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Spell_combinations, though I only really use Nightmare and Shockwave, as Storm of the Century does more harm than good.

Tales of the Abyss made pretty heavy use of it, and both the player and enemies could create, strengthen and use the other's "FoF Fields".

The first game I'm aware of that made use of the combo system similar to GW2 is Chrono Trigger. But its also an old school turn based rpg from back when Squaresoft didn't fail. The introduction of that system into GW2 was one of the biggest draws of the combat system in that game.

Street Fighter, if you do a dragon punch right after a normal uppercut you'll get a 2 hit combo.

I play as a debuff focused Necromancer and recently started a damage focused Warrior. I attribute my noobness to the fact that I did not play that much up until recently. Before that it was probably 6 months since I last booted the client up. Do not recall the game ever mentioning the combo system on both of my level 80 characters or remember the friend who is a high ranking PvPer talking about it.

It took me ages to realise the combo system in GW2 was a thing. WvW groups make heavy use of it, though, so I'm quite smart to it now.

Both fire and light fields are often demanded in WvW, which engies can deliver.

Something similar, though on smaller scale, was done in Dungeons and Dragons Online - you could cast Grease on an area and then ignite it with a fire spell or effect for a short-lived DoT field. The effect was strong for its spell level and it scaled well with character level, but inability to buff it with metamagic and ubiquity of more powerful DoTAoE rendered burning grease to nothing more than novelty with little tactical consideration. I don't think they had any field/trigger mechanics in that game either.

Thank you all for your input on this subject. I never noticed that so many popular titles actually have proper combo systems. I'm going to have to try out some of those games.
