While still in the pre-beta stage I've seen a lot of commotion over this game, especially given that FFXIV just right around the corner and the comparisons are coming through in their truck loads! To anyone who played the first game (or maybe didn't) will you be giving this sequel a try when it gets its release?

I wasn't sure at first but I've done my research and I'm actually pretty excited about it. They've abolished missions and pretty much removed grinding (as INSANE as that might sound) but on reading I actually much prefer the way they're approaching the game.

Heck I just signed up with one of the first established guilds on www.iconoclastgaming.com so I'm actually pretty excited...
I know, you're shocked.

I played the crap out of GW1. If they really kill quests and grinding like they say they will, I would definitely give it a try. Not that you can give it a try, since there's no monthly fees and once you buy it you're good to go forever. Also, I did give a try to FFXIV beta. It sucks.

I played the first one and it was one of the best gaming experiences of my life. I will be playing the ass out of GW2, it looks amazing.

I'm getting it, I still play the first one, I've got more hours logged on that than any subscription based MMO. I hope they include the Monk, from what I've seen it looks like they're designing classes to be able to function without relying on a healer, so I don't think they'll be Monks; which is a damn shame. I love the bald headed bastards, they take skill to play and they are needed in PvP for any chance of success, unless you're playing another team without a monk, which you shouldn't be relying on anyway. Plus, they're awesome in PvE because you can make yourself invincible.

That guild you've signed up for is probably going to be shit, the big "established" guilds are just noob infested clusterfucks that function more as Google than actual guilds, they're far too big to even know the members or have a conversation, plus (because they're open to everyone) you get a lot of kids. The best guilds (I find) are the ones with 20-30 members that are active and not filled to the brim with whoever is guildless.

Iconoclast isn't established in the sense you're thinking. It's a small group currently with only about ten people, and there's an application- mostly when I say established I mean set up, with a website and the like. I certainly don't intend to join one of te larger Guilds with 100+ very unhelpful members.

Otherwise yeah, very much looking forward to it. One of the big talks is that there will be a Paladin class in place of Monk (looks more like a Valkyrie to me) but that might fit the niche you're thinking of!

I never really got into the first Guild Wars, I tried it, I have three of the four titles in the series, It just was too...unstructured? I guess. But the second one looks very good, and is branching away from traditional WoW bore me to death shit. SO maybe I'll pick it up. I mean it is free after all (minus the 60 dollar initial price tag...)

Ah, I see. That's a pretty good idea, and cool I'll keep my eye on it. I'll probably roll everything at least once anyway, but Monks are just so damn fun.

I played over a thousand hours of GW1 so I will deffo be getting this one.

I'm excited for it. The more I read to more I get - it sounds so good!
I love Final Fantasy but I never played 11, and I don't think I will be getting 14...especially if it is monthly fees too..

Well I'm glad to see that there's interest in the new game, it's the alterations to the traditional formulae I'm really interested in. Still planning to give FFXIV a go though...
Always happy to see people I might play with in future :)

when the first info released it seemed they were just removing all the best gw features and making another wow clone, however I've changed my mind after much more info is released. They are definitely innovating in different areas, looking forward to this game now. although I will miss the complexity of gw's class and character build system.

PS: the new FF looks absolutely awful.

You've basically said exactly what I wanted to say. Word for word. Looking forward to GW2.
Too bad I stopped playing GW for about 10 months, and lost my Ranger FoW armor to gold sellers hacking into my account :(

I think I'm gonna wait and see how it looks on launch. I wonder if it'll be good enough to pull me from WoW?

I love how the game doesn't have an armor system really. Everyone gets to design their own style and you get stats placing items into sockets. Its like Phantasy Star if any of you played it.

Like they said on the arena.net blog: (not exact words for words but close)

"Its time to start remembering people by their looks, not their name above their heads."

Yeah I did play Phantasy Star Online, my girlfriend had me sign up >.>
I must say though I was surprised by how fun it was, and the clothes and armour were probably my favourite thing about it. Would be nice to see tight knit people in Guilds able to recognise each other by appearance.

Plus, imagine a uniform style shared by an entire guild- could be quite an aesthetic achievement.

gw2 looks a lot more interesting than GW1 to me - I'll probably give it a try, but I never really take much advantage of MMOs because I rarely get too involved with the community. Still, no fees is tempting, and I'd like to see if they can deliver even half of what they promise.

I think the Stolen Pixel comic 'Guilt Wars' says it best.
If they can keep their word on all this stuff... well, I'd say it would be worth the monthly fees that other MMO's have to pay. Only we won't have to pay them... double bonus

I'm incredibly excited about Guild Wars 2, all the more so after reading recent articles on it. I loved Guild Wars to pieces, so that basic foundation, with vast improvements = amazing.

I wasn't a fan of the first game but this one looks amazing. I may have to break my oath of "never touching another MMO after WoW."
