THQ could have financed the game through quick starter or something. I worked for Double Fine. I really like THQ too bad they haven't made games alot of people bought recently.
Forgive my ignorance, but what are THQ's cash cows at this point? They've got Darksiders 2 coming. Then the WWE stuff. But beyond that I can't think of much else. Saints Row? What else?
That sucks. I was really looking forward to see what Del Toro could do with a game. Although I guess it makes sense that they would drop it. From what I heard about it I don't think it was ever going to be a big seller. Hopefully someone else will pick this up and publish it.
While this is incredibly disappointing news to me, I'm sort of hoping a lack of projects will eventualy force Del Toro to turn around and say "Fine! Here's your friggin' Hellboy 3!"
This sorta sucks. I can see why they would drop it from an economic standpoint. at least they gave the rights back to Del Toro, it may yet see the light of day.
Getting halfway into development and cancelling the project doesn't seem like a good way to make money.
Someone really needs to explain the concept of 'sunk costs' to THQ. It would cost them way less to simply take these projects to completion at this point than it would to start something else from scratch.
