So I'm thinking about getting a new guitar cable because my birthday is coming up. The ones I have right now are okay but not great. I was wondering if anyone on the Escapist had some good experience with cables or just has a personal recommendation.

The one I am currently thinking about is the coiled ones from Bullet Cable:

I'm only thinking of that one because Paul Gilbert (one of my favorite guitarists) endorses them. I figure if he uses them they're probably pretty good, right?

Any suggestions?

tl;dr what is a good guitar cable for < $50?

I bought a 15ft cable for about 40 bones that has gold plated tips, and I can't complain.

Make sure you get gold tipped, because they're the cleanest sounding cables out there. Nothing beats gold.

Unless you sound really crappy and want interference to cover your playing, but I don't think that's the case : )

Edit: I got a Planet Waves gold tipped cord. Little expensive, but it sounds good.

What kind of guitar do you have/use?
shitty Yamaha strat knockoff. Bad pickups, bad sustain, etc.

I'm not going to be replacing it any time soon, so don't suggest that.

Wasn't going to. I say that you should get a thick cable that can take some abuse

Look I run audio systems every once in awhile and I deal with music equipment all the time. I'll tell you that the brand doesn't really matter. If you want a good sound, get gold plating and a thick wire. Other than those factors, nothing matters.

This is not entirely on-topic, but I've heard that price matters when buying cables, brand or no brand, can you confirm that? I figure that gold-plated cables should cost some extra, right?

Gold does tend to cost extra, but if you plan on keeping the cables for a while, and sounding the best, might as well pay the extra coin for it.

Well yeah that's really cause better sounding material(such as gold) costs more. So generally you will get a better cable for a higher price. The only thing is you have to watch out for some brands overpricing.
