Well, it's also got a lot to do with taste. I never even considered buying a Guitar Hero/ Rock Band game until Beatles was announced. To tell the truth, I'd never even bought a Beatles album before, but I'd heard them on the radio, and I really liked what I'd heard, so I thought buying the game would be the perfect way to get into them. True, the Beatles style of music, especially in the guitar playing department, isn't exactly on the same level as some of the Metallica solos, but you know what? I think it actually sounds infinitely better. I hope this doesn't sound like a dig at the vast army of Metallica lovers, but there's a significant difference between something that Slipknot or Motorhead or what-have-you plays and, say, Fixing A Hole. Some of the songs on Metallica go for well over 5 minutes, whereas the guitar solo on Fixing A Hole goes for about 20 seconds, but I wouldn't want to trade any of the Metallica songs in the words if it means I won't be able to play along to Fixing A Hole. I use Metallica here as only one example; there are plenty of songs that I'd like to play on the Guitar Hero games, but the number of which is few and far between.triorph said:Is it just me or does "rock band: beatles" kinda defeat the spirit of a lot of these games? I mean I know a lot of people love the beatles but I always thought the idea of these games was to be a hard rocker with music bordering on metal. This could just be my opinion of course but it seems like the choice in music in these games has gone downhill.
Rock Band Beatles was designed to appeal to two different audiences, with two different purposes; to introduce the Beatles to a new generation of people and videogamers, and to introduce the rhythm gaming scene to those who already liked the Beatles. While I myself had only really listened to them in passing, I consider myself to be of the latter denomination, seeing as, because of Beatles Rock Band, I went out and bought myself some Beatles albums, and I love them more than any of the heavy metal/hard rock style of music that you refer to as being the "true spirit" of the series.
