I just got a used Dean V-X and it has some nice play, but it needs a lot of work. I need to get it some new pickups and I would like to here what you recommend (brand/style). I play metal so I would like something with some nice crunch, but a good clean and clear sound for clean settings for a bluesy approach.

EDIT: What is the difference between Active and Passive pickups sound wise?

Can't go wrong with a good EMG 81/85 configuration.

But sounds like from what you want you should get some Seymour Duncan pickups.

I know that Ibanez uses Seymour Duncan. Are they good?

Yeah, personally I like the EMG's tone, but if you want crunch Duncan's are great. In fact alot of musician's endorce Seymour Duncan like Micheal Amott, Mick Thompson, Alexi Lehio, and Dime(per death).

And to answer your queston Passive pickups are just normal pickups, while active use a batery to get extra distortion.
