I was just wondering, how do the guitarists of the escapist wear their guitar straps?

Do you have it high?
Do you have it low?
Inbetween?

Where should i have it if i want to improve my speed whilst standing up?...i think that my playing has hit a brick wall because of my strap height (belt or lower)...i seem unable to do sweeps if im standing, fast runs and the such...it could be lack of practice, but ive been trying to get those techniques down for a long time...
i would put my strap higher but fear looking like a twat...

Discuss!

(My main type of music is Metal)

heh, when I was in high screwel, my fellow guitar/bassist got angry at me because I wore my bass at thigh height instead of cramped up at my rib cage.

When I play bass I keep it down at my thigh, but when I play guitar, I like it more belt-ish.

hehe...i shout at my rhythm guitarist for having his guitar up in his ribcage =P
but i think that i may have to start doing it too because our songs are slowly becoming more technical etc and im finding it hard at my current guitar height...
Then again...i refuse to look like Tom Morello -.-

heh yeah. This guy was a heavy guy with short arms and basically had his guitar sitting on top of his belly, where I'm a long limbed distance runner so... yeah. It's really an issue of comfort and accessibility. What works for you works.

I have my bass high, a bit above my belt. This gives me even assess to the whole fretboard.

Practice playing standing up or raise your strap. If you act confident with your strap up high then no one will care.

I have mine at waist height. But I change it while playing depending on the song. If i'm playing fast I widen my stance and...

holy shit there's a spider on my desk... okay it's dead now.

Anyway, I widen my stance, lean back slightly and angle the guitar upwards. Pulls the guitar closer to you with it partially resting on your leg making it easier to get speed but you don't look like a nob.

I play metal also, but I've only been playing for a year and half.

I play with my guitar hovering between my crotch and knees, and when I play intense parts I widen my stance and kind do the rocking back and forth headbang making my guitar go even further to the ground. I blame my limber wrists, I can play with my arms fully extended.

But it is all about comfort, and I find my way very comfortable. Btw, I play grindcore/death metal.

I have one bass at ribcage height and one at knee, depends which bass I'm using/what music I'm playing/how high I feel like it.

It's good to be versatile.

Hunched up against your rib cage like The Beatles is the only way to go for me. But I finger pick, so swinging below my knees is way out of the question.

But seriously, if you really need to do some technical playing, I recommend playing it repeatedly in the classical position until you get it down. Then it's easier to transfer it to standing or whatever.

In case you don't know what it is...

Right about there. Keep your shirt on, however.

I play with my guitar slightly above waist height. I'm fairly new to the guitar and I do find it easier to play sitting down, with the guitar on my knee, but I'm trying to practice more and more whilst standing up, so it will become easier. The few times I played with my band, filling in for our regular player, I did play standing up, guitar at waist height. All it is is a matter of pratice.

Wait... You can play with your shirt on? I guess I'm just not at that skill level yet.
Practice, practice, practice!

So for the people who have their strap low, below their belt, can you tell me what advantages you find it brings. Apart from looking cool that is.

Is it weird that i sit this way when i play my crappy old six string?
It strangely comfortable provided your junk is well located.
I used to think it made people look less manly sitting cross legged, then i saw Charlie Sheen do it alot, and he has fucked many more women then ive even met.

I have the orange one of those with "Department of Corrections".
Also I usually have my guitar about hip height.
Though higher for more technical songs, I mostly just play around these days so I'm more likely to stuff up from lack of practice rather than guitar height.

Personally, I keep my bass around my belly. It's a good height, you don't have to lean down to play it, and you can look down and see exactly what you're doing.
