ok so i was thinking of getting a guitar, paticuarly this one http://www.guitarbitz.com/1107.htm probly not from that place as you can get it £50 cheaper elsewhere, but anyway i was wondering what amp i should get to go with it, as im new to this it obviously shouldnt be to expensive but good enough that it will last for a while and also under £50. Also are there any good, easy, free online things to learn how to play well?

1.) Link is broken.

2.) Amp? I don't know if they're available where you live, but Peavey Practice amps are usually really good. I got mine for $40 US on sale at Guitar Center.

3.) No such thing as a get-good-quick-and-easy. Guitar is blood, sweat, and tears of frustration with long hours of scaling and practicing. You will not find a get-good-quick scheme here. If you find someone who says they have one, they're a bold faced liar.

That link doesn't work, but never buy a guitar that's under £150 new. I reccomend to you the Yamaha Pacfic as a started guitar...

http://www.imuso.co.uk/directory/reviews/electric-guitar-reviews/yamaha-pacifica.htm

It was my first guitar 3 years ago and it still works great to this day, it's kind of like an unspecialized guitar, which is why it's a good one to start you off, it's not the best for playing metal, or the best for playing blues, but you can set it up to make a nice sound for whatever you're playing.

Flying-Emu said get a Peavey Practice amp, I'd agree with him, was my first amp and got a decent sound out of it. I'm not really to sure about cheap amps though.

The important thing is to go to the shop and try your guitar and amp out there, do not, whatever you do, order over the internet. When you try a guitar you might buy out, ask to try out another one of the same guitar, because sometimes the same model of guitar can differ in quality from one another(if that makes sense?).

Edit: The link is fixed, now let me tell you, don't buy that guitar.

Line 6 15W Spider 3, one of the best practice amps ever, and judging by the guitar I can see that you're into hard rock so you'll enjoy the sound. Not the best clean sound though, but its around 50 pounds I believe. Also you should play the guitar before you buy it.

Have you figured out yet if you're a left handed or a right handed guitar player? If you haven't; do so before you buy a guitar. Else you might have to buy another.

An amp under £50?

You're pushing it a bit mate, sure you can probably do it but you're going to run into problems probably.
My marshall is starting to wear down now and it's about 7 years old now, got that for £199 I believe.

Go to guitar shops and play everything you want to play in store, make yourself a nuisance. You have to check tonality of a guitar out, especially how you would play it.
If you're going to be playing metally stuff, then a standard telecaster from stores ain't going to cut it,most likely.
Get out there and try everything, listen to the sound and not the looks.

Always do this. Head down to your local music shop and try it out before you buy it. It may look cool, but if it plays like crap, you've just wasted your money.

Here's the Line 6:

http://www.thomann.de/ie/line6_spider_iii_15.htm

I got mine for 50 quid because it was a deal but its 98 euro separately, if you want to get a deal you should buy your guitar from that site too and save money.

Also get yourself a teacher.

OK I'm pretty much in the same position as you. I've travelled around my local music shops to check out what they had. The trouble is, when you're a complete beginner who has never held a guitar before, all the people ranting on at you to try it seem to forget you hardly know what you're trying.

Should it sound like that?
Is what I'm doing to try it out correct?
Is this what I should want it to do?

Those are a few of the things I kept asking myself because, frankly, unless you've already played a guitar, trying it out results in even more confusion. I ended up getting the shopkeepers to show me some of the things they could do, and decided on which one sounded approximately what I wanted and ended up getting one of these. Also, if you want good, free online tutoring to learn basics (a teacher is better once you've learned the basics, they're there to prevent you from getting bad habits) I'd recommend Justin Sandercoe. [http://www.justinguitar.com/index.php]

Hope I've helped a little, and good luck :D
