It seems that almost every game released in the past years has had some sort of firearms, weapons, and violence overall. Don't get me wrong, I love to blast things away and a lot of times killing someone is a major part of the story. I just wonder why it has become such a large part of every game, that every game must include death or a form of delivering pain.

Excluding casual games, of course.

It's a modern version of the awesome game known...as 'Tag' :)

I guess the guns are also one of the main selling points in shooters. Even a James Bond gadget has to 'shoot' something to be cool. (except x-ray spec for spying on boobage >:d )

Because we can't experience killing things in real life, and guns have been popular because we're conditioned to like what's best.

It's because games are made to be as fun as possible (excluding some games that failed at that) and violence is the best or easiest way to have fun in games since we can't do it in real life without suffering the consequences.

I think the violence and overall "pain" stems from what type of persona we would love to emulate in a video game. Face it most gamers are men, and within this culture the most accepted form of competition and "dick measuring" is through the use of violence.

Besides, if games didn't depict some sort of violent gory theme to it. Then the middle class sub-urban white kid wouldnt be able to vent their frustration....

I don't care. It screwed up everything. Now lots of games have there own version of MW2. Thanks to MW2 Halo: Reach was ruined with the whole perk thing, and more powerful grenades and whoever shoots first and rushes with an assault rifle wins even more than it used to be.
I heard that MW2 was teh first evar game that used a perk system!!1
Also grenades in CoD games are significantly less powerful then those in certain other FPS's.

Blame MW2 if your blaming something.
Blame Hollywood.

Also,OP,you are officially today's

Modern Warfare 2 came AFTER the trend.

Back in the day shooters were popular, too. Galaga and Space invaders were incredibly popular and they were about killing stuff.
Then came Spy Hunter about a car shooting stuff for no good reason.
Then we had Megaman and Contra, then the sequels and metroid.

Then Jak and Daxter picked up a rifle in Jak II to compete with Ratchet and Clank while gamers were drooling over Halo.
After Halo's glory died down a bit Call of Duty 4 came out and gave the genre a gritty reboot ignoring the fact that Battlefield 2: Modern Combat did it first. Then Bad Company 1, Modern Warfare 2 and Bad Company 2 sell over a million copies in their first week.

All of this while Grand Theft Auto revolutionizes the gaming industry letting people commit genocide in the streets of Liberty City.

What em I getting at with that? Shooters have always been popular and they probably will be in the future. Violence sells.

Battlefield had the "perk" thing first in the form of classes. Every class had a unique action only they could perform. Call of Duty 4 re-invented it with the perk system.

Also, how can you say Halo: Reach was ruined? It's Halo, it's been ruined from the start. If Halo started taking notes from Modern Warfare and other shooters they could improve their product. Look at what Battlefield Bad Company 2 did, they took their addictive and intense gameplay and added the convenience of customizable weapons and perks to make a tasty, tasty gaming experience.

If anything Halo: Reach took notes from Modern Warfare and did the exact OPPOSITE. The grenades are way too damn powerful and you can scavenge them off of anyone so you can have infinite OP grenades, then you have the guns which were downgraded from Pea Shooters to Super Soakers. The perks thing is complete crap since SPRINTING is a perk. It's a basic gameplay mechanic and they treat it like a super power like flying or turning invisible. The armor perk thing sucks. You can shield yourself if you're about to get run over but you're completely vulnerable coming out of it. Your enemy will just stand there waiting for you to unshield while he lines up a shot or waits to have another go at you with his Scorpion.

Ah, got a little off topic there...

And just why are you quoting me?The obvious thing (I feel weird explaining it) that I was thinking of was the original poster (OP) saying about violence in games.

Sorry, didn't see that it was directed to the OP.
In that case, yes. Your image is a bit underwhelming in this case. It should be a 2400x24000 banner with every super hero on it because he noticed a trend that has been going on since videogames started.

don't blame mw2, that game is only following the trend, if your going to blame a game for having guns, blame MOH, if anything call of duty copied them
